Insurgents launch 18 coordinated attacks in 3 southern border provinces

BANGKOK: -- Muslim insurgents carried out 18 coordinated attacks in three southern border provinces Wednesday night, police said.

 

Two deaths were reported in three attacks in Songkhla while three incidents happened in Pattani and Narathiwat saw 12 attacks carried out.

 

The attacks were carried out between 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

 

Police said two insurgents were killed when their homemade bomb hidden in a motorcycle fell and exploded before they reached a target in Songkhla’s Saba Yoi district.

 

 The explosion occurred at about 8 pm near a military base in Moo 4 village in Tambon Saba Yoi.

 

Nearly at the same time, insurgents also opened fire at a unit of troops in Ban Juab village in Tambon Thamung of Thepha district.

 

Also at 8 pm, two insurgents on a motorcycle hurled a grenade at a police booth in front of Chana police station. The bomb fell beside the booth so the two police officers inside were safe. They later exchanged fire with the two assailants who later fled the scene.

 

In Pattani, a group of insurgents lobbed two grenades at official houses of police in Pattani’s Kapho district Wednesday evening.

 

Police said the attack at the houses for police of Kapho police station in Moo 2 village in Tambon Karubee happened at 7:30 pm.

 

No one was injured.

 

Meanwhile in Narathiwat, Narathiwat police chief Pol Maj Gen Manas Siksamut issued an urgent order to all 19 police stations in the southern border provinces, telling them to be on full alert after insurgents carried out 12 simultaneous attacks at about 7:30 pm.

 

Three attacks were carried out in Tak Bai district. In one of the incident, insurgents hurled a grenade at the house of Pol Lt Wit Nilnoi, a Tak Bai police officer.

 

Two attacks were made in Sugnai Padi distirct and another in Rusoh district.

 

Insurgents hurled grenades at two villagers’ houses in two villages in Waeng district.

 

In Rangae district, an M79 grenade was fired at a task force base.

 

In Yi Ngor district, insurgents hurled a grenade at a checkpoint of defense volunteers in front of the district agricultural office and another grade at the base of the defense volunteers of Tambon Poryoh.

 

In Si Sakhon district, insurgents hurled a grenade at the base of a defense volunteer company.

What do you expect him to do? Seriously?  There are only three options, none of which is  going to happen;

1. Return of the  sultanates that were  annexed and absorbed by Thailand or;

2.  Designate the contested areas as Muslim dominated, allow sharia law, remove all characteristics of Buddhist Thailand and withdraw all Thai government services  including health workers, civil servants, police, military  and teachers.

3. Undertake a genocide that eliminates anyone  related to or associated with groups who  support the separation of the former sultanates.

 

Thailand's nationalists will not accept anything but the ongoing control of the region. A large number of Thais would like to be rid of the  area and its  people. However, a majority of the people in the region would like to remain in Thailand. Whatever happens, unless there is  some give and take on the part of Thailand as a nation and the people in the region  demanding separation, this violence will continue.

think "save face" a bad thing here , these people know who and where they are attacking. not just some stranger coming in for a quick shoot up.

Somebody is working hard to keep this out of the international news media ..TAT must be busy !!!

Tell them that if this terrorism does not stop, their Mosques will start to be closed down. If they cannot live in peace like normal people, they do not deserve to be there.

Something seriously needs to be done about this situation. It's been going on far too long and way too many innocent people being killed.

Actually it is the Thais from the Kingdom of (then) Siam that do not belong there.

You might review some of the history of the Muslim states that were annexed by the Thai Kingdom.

Like not dumping corrupt / useless officials down there as a punishment. Religion aside, no wonder they are annoyed.

strike a deal with malaysia, transfer citizensip of all muslims, deport them all, drastic measures are needed or it will never end

Then deporting Thai citizens from the Muslim homeland would be more logical. Why give Thailand the benefit of occupation by its forced annexation? Maybe Malaysia could be convinced to allow Thais to remain but only if Thais were treated as foreigners - no sovereign rights such as land ownership, voting, Malaysia passport, etc.
