Authorities building the Sky Train Blue Line in Bangkok have answered criticism about confusing road markings at a major Bangkok intersection.

The markings at the Bang Plat intersection were slammed online by netizens as confusing. This was especially true when viewed from above and might lead to accidents, they said.

But the sky train authorities said on behalf of the contractors S.H.-U.N. that the markings were necessary to facilitate the placement of temporary posts used in the construction of the Tao Poon to Tha Phra line.

Four posts will need to be in place for five months and traffic will need to be diverted around these.

If you need diversions like this, better to cone each side of each lane to channel the traffic properly through the diversion. Lines will do nothing as Thai drivers don't understand lane markings and certainly don't take any notice of them.

Cones seem to be sparingly or badly used here when they would go a long way to solving the dangerous conditions at roadworks, which generally appear with a blocked lane after a blind bend with one cone behind a truck.

I think it's artwork.  Would make a lovely framed picture in my den.    I've heard of smart cars, self parking cars, but cars that change width?
