To be less than this it will probably have to be a government hospital.

Chulalongkhorn Hospital in Bangkok would be a good choice, go through their "after hours" clinic (clinic nawk wela) and try to get an appointment with Dr. Pear Pongsachareonnont

It will definitely cost lerss than Rutnin or BPH. I can't tell you exactly how much but likely 1/2 to 1/3 the cost at Rutnin.

However:

- you will not be able to make an appointment in advance, you have to go in person to do this, and there may be a wait list to see the doctor

- you will not be able to get information on the cost until you go in person and see the doctor

-due to all the above you will have to pay hotel costs etc which along with airfare will add to the total cost. Not just for the procedure but also for follow up care.

Before resorting to this, call Mission Hospital in Phuket and see if they have an opthalmologist able to do this procedure. They might not, but worth asking.

The eye surgery is obviously the priority but once it is taken care of, you urgently need to see about getting health insurance. These costs which you cannot afford are minor compared to what you will face if you have a major accident or catastrophic illness. This is just an outpatient surgery (albeit a very specialized one).  Even at government hospitals, bills can reach 1-2 million baht.

P.S. The government hospital in Surathani is also an option, it is a large regional facility so will be able to do this, but a lot of red tape and long waits involved - you'd need a Thai speaker to help you navigate on at least the first visit and have to stay in the town for several days.

I don't know if the Surrathani hospital has an "after hours" clinic but it probably does, in which case use it, can save as much as 1-2 days of waiting and also gives you more time with the doctor, otherwise it is very rushed.

Probably bombarded with quotes now,   just google something like ' best eye hospital Calcutta'  (kolcutta)  a fair few there, some doctors have 100% mark ups from hundreds of  reviews, Skype them for a quote    its only 2 hours away from BKK, there and back in a day.  Visa needed  ,but cheap...e visas now too

They might try to bump the price up a bit, tell them you have had cheaper quote elsewhere, fall over backwards for your business with no loss of quality, fantastic experience, you will be pleased

Not the same condition, but an acquaintance recently had double knee replacement done in India and is very satisfied with the results.

The hospital was modern and up to date, the staff competent and caring and post surgical therapy and follow-up well organized.

His costs, including airfare was about 2/3rds of the quotes he received in Thailand.

He did a lot of research prior to making the decision to have it done there.

ill say they are good, Here we are Thailand, expensive, damned expensive private rip off hospitals, and not very accessible govt hospitals and a couple of hours away from the finest and possibly cheapest medical care in the world, makes the NHS (UK) an also-ran ,seen instantly too.

Relate...had op there couple of months ago, but for reasons flew via Bangalore, (cheap price AA) few hours stop over, took taxi for drive around, looked at a finer array of specialist hospitals you could only imagine, one after another, huge places, modern and impressive, completed journey (one hour) to Goa later, bit of surf before plunging into hospital  operation mode a day or so later ,...stepped on something ,rock or whatever, foot bleeding, went to local hospital, strapped it up  200 baht with a shot, cardiologist there too, gave me the first of echo test 400 baht......the poster above get a full standard checkup   up the ass, down the throat, heart stress test blood tests, its so cheap

I did get the price of operation down by 50%...priced a couple up before choosing...thought they would put me in ward, but no, private room for 5 days.....at least one-tenth of the cost of Thailand
