Tak authorities to burn 30 hectares of opium field

Tak authorities conducted an operation to destroy more than 30 hectares of opium on the Thai-Burmese border.

The Superintendent of the PupPra (พบพระ) district in Tak province, Pol Col Panya Sukaim (ปัญญา สุขเอม), led a combined force of police, border police unit 346, special task force of the 17th Infantry Regiment, and volunteer district officials on an operation to destroy over 30 hectares of opium in the mountains of Kiriraj (คีรีราษฎร) subdistrict in the province.

Several suspects living in the local area were apprehended, as well as 80 kilograms, and 2 firearms. Police have charged the suspects with possession of class 2 and 5 drugs, and possession of illegal firearms.

The PupPra district chief, Mr. Jaras Srimoon (จรัส ศรีมูล), revealed that authorities would be cracking down on opium production in the area and will cooperate with hilltribes in growing alternative cash crops.
