TRANG: -- A woman driver is lucky to be alive after clipping a policeman's pick-up truck parked on the hard shoulder of a road in Trang, southern Thailand.

Video of the accident was caught on the dash cam of a driver who posted the footage on Facebook under the name "RapeePetchkrua", reported Daily News.

The poster said the white car had just overtaken their car and then hit the back of the parked police pick-up on Petchkasem Road.

Officer Siwawat Khaorom of Na Yong police station said that he had driven his own vehicle to the area after reports of a vehicle that had left the road in a separate accident.

While he was investigating he heard the noise of the accident and rushed back. But the women - aged about 30 - in the white car was fine and talking.

She just had a small injury to her chest.

Siwawat credited the fact she was wearing a seatbelt as saving her life. He said on video that the woman told him she was looking to the right, but not to the left.

The driver of the white car refused to speak to the press, said Daily News.

"The driver of the white car refused to speak to the press..."

Smart move. Don't talk about anything until you find out the social status of the driver. Even if it was her fault, the driver/witness  could be sued for defamation. Even if his statement proves to be entirely accurate. Viewing the video, it appears that the woman veered off the road, onto the shoulder and was responsible for the crash. Considering there was no vehicle in the right lane, the responsible move would have been to switch to the right lane once she realized there was a vehicle on the shoulder. That's assuming that she uses the side view and rear view mirrors for their intended purposes, and she was not distracted by her cell phone.

Check her phone for texting etc....Accident was totally her fault, just glad she wasn't driving a Vigo, we would of had the "See they do flip" brigade on by now....

lets hope they checked her for alcohol. the way she just veered left into the car is strange at best. The ability of many thai drivers is a major concern, you have to wonder why there are so many avoidable accidents due to lack of concentration, driving ability, no understanding of road rules, ignorance/arrogance , failure to keep their vehicles road worthy, speed and alcohol/drugs. In this case it looks like it could even be a combination of some.

So she's driving straight ,looking to the right,BUT not to

the left ,what kind of excuse is that.

Here's another version, outer circle family member never checks anything and always gets the car moving 1 or 2 seconds before the traffic light turns green and without checking at all if any cars are coming from left or right or the other side of the intersection.

He insists that other cars are not allowed by law to start into the intersection when they have an orange light, therefore there is no need for him to do any checking.

Bottom line - nobody in the family will travel with him. And he's had several accidents because of his beliefs.

Isn't the intended purpose of the mirrors to put on one's makeup?

Cut the poor woman some slack. It's too boring to look at the road for long periods, she needs something else to occupy her mind.

I know a guy who has a big SUV who ferries people and goods from Makro. On his dash is a mini TV at which he gazes continually. He was quite annoyed when I asked if it was legal.

With a bit of luck this lady will have to settle all costs personally.

Not just driving, walking seams to be a problem too.

I had my tyre pressures checked last week and found the wheel nearest my seat was twice the manufacturers recommended psi

This was at my regular tyre shop and the one place I always use; continuity an' all that!

Both the Police officer and the lady are extremely lucky to be alive - that was a huge smash.

This accident offers a perfect example of how inattention on the road can have drastic consequences.

Time for a Thai Bash.... This inattention is quite prevalent on the roads here, people are simply unaware or refuse to think about the potential consequences of their carelessness, the consequence of which is the appalling statistics on Thailands roads.
