Ok, but most criminal groups (mafia) all around the world, at all levels, know they have to let the people paying protection money still make a little for themselves, or their whole business model fails.

 

Even drug dealers know they have to sell a quality product, at the correct weight, at the current market price.

 

What these guys are doing, through "greed" and "corruption" and "criminality" is making losses for their own criminal enterprise, and the Phuket tourism industry is collateral damage.

 

If one even looks at what they are doing, through their eyes, it's still unsustainable. 

 

It's now at the point of laughable. 

 

We're talking "p*ssup in a brewery" laughable.

First step, close the airport! Second step, remove 50% of taxi's, songtails, and buses! Third step, replace the RTP with a private police force. Fourth close the government Land Office and transfer the work to Bangkok. Fifth only allow 300 Chinese tourists on the island at one time. I think Patong will be a nice place to live after all the above.

I loved Bali 40 years ago, it was paradise!

But the world is ever changing, and memories are usually all that is left of favorite places. Best to accept nothing is constant and live in the now.

I agree about Bali. First time 31 years ago and natural. Went back 10 years later and so much change. Took my Thai wife there 5 years ago and it was horrible. Much like Patong now.

 

How to reinvent Patong .... about 25 years too late now. No hope ...
