Army chief visits Pattani

By The Nation

Army Commander-in-Chief General Chalermchai Sitthisart visited Pattani on Saturday morning to be briefed on the progress of security agencies’ operations to return peace to the restive deep South.

Chalermchai arrived at the Forward Command of the Internal Security Operations Command Area 4 at the Sirindhorn Army Base at 10.45am.

He chaired a meeting with Fourth Army Area Commander Lt-General Piyawat Nakwanit and representatives from provincial police head offices in the region and from the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre.

During the meeting, Chalermchai told the agencies to use development projects as major measures to try to bring about peace in the region.

They were also told to step up security for Muslim people travelling to and from mosques during the month of fasting.

Without peace talks. Seems all that's left as a government strategy in the South are military operations.
