I am looking to increase my options for good authentic thai food generally in town preferably or at least on the Nong Hoy side as opposed to Nim.

Option to all suggestions from cheap thai places for everyday food to mid range and more expensive as well as nice romantic places to take my wife.  Price not really a factor as we can go to all places, aithentic food more the key.

I know we have some old threads on here but things move on so I am looking for a recent update.

Thanks

With all respect I have been here over a year and every time I eat Thai food I throw up later that day, I wonder if anyone else suffers like me.

Where are you eating?

What are you eating?

Never heard of anyone with your problem,  you could be sick.

Back to the OP's question...

Huen Phen (they have a afternoon & diner resultant side by side inside moat)

Somtam Udon in Santium area

Tesco Foodcourt in Kamtiem area - Great view of Doi Suthep!

Never had a problem with Thai food but some of the Southern delights can get a bit spicy.....I mean they become double burners.  Thank goodness for bum guns!

Only Thai product that makes me sick would be Chang. With the resultant Chang-over.

There are a lot of those mukatar places along the Western moat that are worth trying if that's to your liking.

There is also a place up Doi Suthep road in the hills that over looks a reservior.  Food is a bit on the dearer side but a very nice setting.

A waterfall is opposite their entranceway.....quite nice

I believe it's called Palaad Tawanron restaurant.  Sorry it's not really your side of town but it's good for special occasions.

There is a nice little cafe in the lobby of Galae Thong condos down Chang Klan Road.  Very authentic and good prices.

Sorry I don't know how to spell the Thai name correctly.  Its a buffet type setting where you cook the food at your table either with a charcoal heated cooking device or some places use power.  Theres a big place next to Hillside 4 condos apparently.

You either like em or you don't.  But I'm a fence sitter on that stuff.... I prefer other types of food.

Ok, I know what you mean, and I also don't know how to spell it.  I have Thai friends who love these buffets, probably because they can eat a lot for a small cost.  I'm ok with them, but I go mostly to be sociable.  I prefer good Thai restaurants where all I have to do is eat, drink, and admire the pretties.

Possibly an allergy to an ingredient, worth trying to narrow it down.   I'm allergic to shellfish, and the side effects (vomiting) usually occurred  a couple of hours after I'd eaten.

Actually... I didn't wrongly post it as a 99 baht opening special.  That WAS their opening special. They just decided to continue it longer.

How is one to predict that?

Now try and back up the rest of you post...with facts.

whats the kimchi like?

Posted

doubt if Kimchi is the fare (certainly can be corrected) its along  Thai  eatery lines, using the Korean B.B.Q   model

to this point of time, this estabalishment has been doing a nice trade, largely due to   good quality food for you to cook to your liking

the owner  has a very good business plan in place , large turn over,  competitive  prices (99 baht sitting)very low  overheads involved  ,small nett profit, at the end of the trading  day, but multiply that by 365 days,a nice little earner, but  Stamsy  its very basic  outdoor setting, which would nt suit your agenda,on your O/P

Cobber try  Hot Chilli  Restaruant  in the  walking street market (good parking at the back), and have you tried  my tip to u sometime back, Khualek on the Ping River, opp The Riverside Market, right next to the  Iron Bridge, and parking is available  in Rimpings ,if full,   just down a little  bit ,there is further parking available,

now this might be,  right down your alley, Four  Seasons Resort have   Beef/Wine evening (Friday 30 june ) 1800 baht + +throw in some local accomodation for the night,(not F/S)  and  indeed  u have  got a very romantic evening, and possibly  a roll in the hay,to welcome the new finiancal year in:smile:

its a Perry  Como good evening to all

E/S I will be sure to go to Khulek this time, its been difficult eith a newborn but we will go this time. My life also likes thai buffets, we normally go to the one near the school on the moat so perhaps we will try this one next time.

Thanks for the tips E/S, are you up for a beer when I am over at the end of the month cobber?

Posted

I do not go to Thai restaurants because they are good. I go for one or a few items they do superbly when I feel like those items.

Same with non-Thai.

When I get guest from abroad they always ask me to take them to a good Thai restaurant, I tell them I don't know of any in Chiang Mai, I know popular restaurants, but don't think they are really good. I dare to even say that in most European cities the Thai restaurants are better then in Thailand, because the ingredients they use are of better quality then is available in Thailand.
