Some of those might be licensed as museums, based on the average age of their "girls".

Based on my observations it could be on the average age of their customers...

The Las Vegas thing was quite a while ago, as in like  in 1951:

http://www.worldnextdoor.org/magazine/february-2014/history-of-legalized-prostitution/

"One of the biggest fallacies that exists today is that prostitution is legal in the big cities of Las Vegas and Reno. I learned that in 1951, Reno and Las Vegas voted to close their red light districts and used the public nuisance laws to do so. Now, as the law states, prostitution is only legal in Nevada counties that have a population less than 400,000. In fact, prostitution is illegal anywhere outside the licensed brothels, including “street walking”. Women and customers can be fined up to $1000 and sentenced to 6 months in jail for a first time offense."

yes I remember the inconspicuous Mustang Ranch in Nevada where there are no signs but you navigate your way there by following the red painted arrows on rock boulders in the middle of the desert :giggle:

Easiest way to kill it all off, set up checkpoints on Walking Street and other streets with CCTV cameras trained on the entrance. Make sure that everyone entering removes glasses and hats

....then

make the footage available online.

Most sex tourists don't want it known that they come here to pay for sex with prostitutes.

They hate being videoed in the bars in case their wives or families back home find out about it.

Genius......

Actually, Thai people not involved in the entertainment industry support the crackdown on bars and GoGos as they feel these places attract the wrong kind of people who exploit the girls who work there.  In addition, most Thais are conservative and do not support the in your face type atmosphere that is so prevalent in Pattaya and the other tourist ghettos.

Frankly speaking, if I was a  single person and interested in the entertainment scene- I would give Thailand a pass. A lot more fun in other countries without visa hassles and at lower prices. The golden days of Thailand where everything was freewheeling is gone.  In addition, the widespread use of drugs in the entertainment scene is another reason the powers in charge want to close it.

Less friendly for sex tourists, but more friendly for families and respectable people.

it is a lousy place for families, and it is wrong to assert that people are not respectable just because some people visit because sex may be relatively easy.  The water is polluted and unfit for swimming and there are no plans to improve the septic and sewage quality.  There are few if any green spaces or public parks for family outings, as they concrete over and build up every single piece of land.

I agree with you words about "in your face".  I always enjoyed Pattaya just because things were easy, but I never took advantage of it, never abused, never flaunted it.  On one of my trips after a few days there, one of the bar girls that you know, see more than you might think, and have a good idea of who is staying on the street, yelled out to me "You walk too much".  Yeah well.  I don't need nor want any big loud in your face behavior.  But I certainly over the years saw some very loud extroverts

Simple  explanation  following  clear  warning  months  before....

Curtail the  proliferation  of  blatancy.

Effect?

Compliant  business  will  survive,  the  pseudo  "clean up"  will  establish  a more  marketable  image.

As  anywhere that  which  a  percentage  desire  will still be there  but  not so  much  "in the  face".

Think of it as part of the determination  to  reduce  the  sewerage.

Soi 6 has quite a history.

In the early days it was a haven for pedophiles. There was a crackdown big time. The police arrived in numbers and took everyone from the bars and made them sit down on the floor at the end of the soi (not the beach end).

Afterwards the word on the street was that the pedos had left and gone to Cambodia.

Soi 6 took on the bar-girl/farang relationship theme and gradually  built up. Now - if you are right - it has turned shemale. A checkered history indeed!

Soi 6 from 2013 When I first visited Thailand and Pattaya till NOW has always been Shemale dominated! "If i am right" Dah....

I am a little shocked to be honest. You would know better than me on the more recent changes. I can recall walking past one bar  - about half way on the left from the beach road end - and counted 18 girls, all dressed in the same schoolgirl outfits. That was the last time I was in Pattaya; 2008.

But I'm due back on 17th July for the marathon.

they will lose so many tourists the place will be like a ghost town and all the locals who rely on them for some kind of income may turn to crime which inturn will further decrease the number of tourists .

why are pattaya officials bothered about foreign media labeling thailand as top sex capital of world when most of them foreign officals who are labeling them are going to these seedy bars themselves for sexual relief and excitement , there should be protests in support of more sex please were british and more seedyness , or is it because they want to put prices up for girls , soon its going to be cheaper to go with a girl in our own country and go somewhere else other than pattaya , they have already destroyed beach road by taking away all the seats on there and putting very few seats there to sit on after walking 2 miles along it . alot of farlangs now bring there own seat , the thais and foreighners piss on the beach at night , dogs sh.t on it , i for 1 will not be going if its a family town and not fr single men , who is going  to go there if there is no sex , they are cutting their own throats

bad news that the bars were closed down!!....now the boys in brown and golden wings will need to compensate the lost "tea money" and guess who will have to shell out the THB's!?...

Which bars have been closed down? All that is happening is that existing alcohol licensing laws are being enforced. It's happened before and is usually not long lasting.

so be it...but it will lead to less pot belly, or hyper tatooed and testosteroned, or overaged farang and local patron drunkards who make much of the mill turn in Pattaya, which consequently leads to what was suggested in the previous comment ycited....

Been here 17 years. Every year or so this is repeated. "gonna do this, gonna do that.Close at 12, cant open till 6." Its all a load of Blox. It hasnt happened yet and when it does its for about 5 days, then every thing is back to normal.Me and Mrs Kaen had 2 bars in patts for 5 years. We were never visited, or told about any closures. We were never bothered, in any way. And we werent paying much money to plod. We used to open at 2 pm, play music until 12. Close our glass doors and quietly go on til about 3 am.1 bar wasn't too far away from soi 6.

I've travelled as I'm sure most have on here , all over Thailand ,

pattaya is the biggest money making Town/ city .. other than BKK , and I'm sure in turnover  Patts runs that pretty close too ... really do they think , making it pro family friendly , it will continue to coin it in ? ... they must do I guess ... thing is it won't be only shifting out the ladies , massage ( both types ) ,tattooists , and a couple of dozen 7-11s , the infrastructure needs really upgrading , the beach isn't family friendly , neither are the roads or pavement , for family's .... only yesterday walking around in pratamak Hill , a Russian family I assumed , tipped her baby's pushchair over with the pavement being all over the show .. the baby was bleeding , cut head it looked like , I don't know how serious  ...

Cambodia will be rubbing its hands ....

How do you get 8-10 million visitors to be 1%

What....??

The numbers of males/females coming to pattaya purely for sexual tourism is something like 1/3 of 1% of all number that arrive in Thailand. Thats unique visitors not the same guy who comes 8 times a year. The income to thailand is miniscule compared to what an additional 10 million visitors would bring if they weren't put off by the vibes of pattaya

I agree they've been happening for years, especially places like Soi 6.

But it seems to me that these "crackdowns" are becoming more frequent and stricter, setting a regrettable trend for we consenting adults who enjoy a little daytime relaxation :whistling: I do hope I'm wrong.

Las Vegas,Nevada in the US,tried to go family friendly back in the 80's.  It was a total disaster!  Trying to make sin city into Disney Land resulted in casino bankruptcies people were selling out and going else where, the tiger was changing it's stripes.

After a couple of years of building family theme parks and churches which was suppose to bring the right element of tourist  and homers owners,no one came.  Just the opposite happened everybody was leaving.

Vegas,  found out quickly sin city was why Las Vegas was built and why it flourished in the past and why it would flourish in the future.   When they finally realized America needed a playground for adults their economy started booming, new casino's were built and  continue to be built today. Sin City is a #1 retiree destination in America.  Wake up Thailand, Pattaya is what makes Thailand great!  If you shut down Pattaya, world dollars will go else where, which will welcome the economic boom and development that once was Thailand's.

It's not far off being a ghost town already. The big question here is how are they going to regulate it and what will those regulations allow or not allow.

Having everything licensed is fine, but it defeats the object if you go too far and kill the place.

Do you think the bib give a damn about licensing laws , who can open what time, they do yes but only for revenue gathering.

i used to say in New York City money can buy you anything you want but compared to Pattaya they are ameteurs.
