Hey everyone, I'm going to be staying in Santitam from July 25th to August 5th and am looking for good recommendations. Possibly a rented apartment, but open to a high-end guesthouse as well. Looking to spend 500-1000thb per day.

Thoughts?

Holiday Inn Santitam is great. If they are full try Howard Johnson's or Best Western.

Are you being sarcastic Bill?..... its ok I had a bit of a laugh.

Ebenweb, I dont have any recommendations but let your fingers do the walking, the internet is your friend.  Trip advisor may help or even just look up Google ans see waht hotels are in the area.  Sometimes a picture/photo paints a thousand words....

Seriously people, Santitam abounds in some nice, newer guesthouses and hostels.  Even a full-service hotel, the Mecure Hotel.  Problem is that most of the guesthouses and hostels are not the sort of places that have websites, use internet booking sites, etc.  But, despite all the nasty comments, it's not all "curtain" motels.  Santitam is a nice, busy area, with everything you need for daily living close at hand.

Been to the Mercure lately Nancy?  I mean inside, maybe eating at the restaurant.  If so then the vast majority of folks you see will be from mainland China.

OP,  i suggest you look elsewhere for decent lodging in Santitham.  Although the Mercure does have the Tops supermarket and Chinese caberet very nearby the fact remains that hotels are really for sleeping.

Nope, haven't been inside the Mecure for a long time.  But, it's one of the few full service hotels in the area.

The YMCA might be more in the price range of the OP, though and less likely to have Chinese tourists.

I stayed there for 2 nights last week. Rooms are good. They have huge beds,  free WIFI and big pool. We stayed on the 5th floor and had no noise complaints. I paid 1500 a night. It was cheaper if you paid on line.

I agree with you about the Chinese and and their noise in the dining room.

There is a large market about 200 metres up Road 107 to get good cheap Thai food.

Wiang Inn Mansion on Santisuk Rd

Run and owned by my friend Amporn for very many years.

Cheap, clean can be noisy as the girls come home at 4am

Spent a couple of the best years of my life there.
