There are no ads on blog and no links on the post to make you buy anything. I just keep it around to keep notes on things for later.

But so far yeah this thread has been really valuable on ideas and also how much other people spend on living. For that I'm happy.

Okay, but you have slightly misled  the TV posters to get this information, and I expect you will use it in a future blog that could earn you money for "clicks". The "Help" threads are for people genuinely needing info on things they need help with in a given situation, and not to get free info that you can "sell" later.

Do you live here now? How much time have you spent in Thailand, and doing what? (I am not going back through all the posts to find out)

If you can justify over a 100 replies let me know.

I've read a post by someone who said a Farang needs to be making at least 50,000 baht to live a good life in Thailand. Why? I'm happy on 30,000 and have everything we need.

because booze and hookers are cheaper in your area!!:cheesy:....just kidding...and I'm acquainted with many people in western countries live on the equivalent of US$ 900,--/month, (not counting the rent, heating and other expenses of course!)

I have a few mates that live in that area, and both those reasons apply. Some for both and others for either, or/and a favourite bar you can walk home from.

Never lived near myself.

I recall some many fun years back when I was living within very very near walking distance of the party zone of the town...noisy, but real fun. It does make sense, depending of one's lifestyle.

Only those smart enough to earn that  amount of money

live in that area.

Not a very nice thing to say in public, even if it's true my dear lady....

Your comment, my dear, lacks some fondamental class and etiquette, necessary when and if you really evolve in any global upscale society. No offence.

No offense taken...I have always spoken my mind

and it is what it is...not a member of the PC phonies.

It was humour I'm sure. Don't get PC, it's out of fashion in comedy, except to ridicule it.

So, now you are the determinant of what is humor? It's more like bigotry.

Yes, being crass and boastful is "speaking one's mind"

Since when has having basic respect for others regardless of their income or their ability to shop been considered "politically correct"?

There's a whole sub-species out there appropriating words/phrases they don't really understand in order to camouflage their ignorance.

I love it when people come to a poor country and pretend to be rich.

Like I was explaining to another arrogant poster here....you staying at Conrad is really not that impressive. It's 150 bucks a night - it's cheaper than a Super 8 motel in Brooklyn.

Get a life, lolz

Most upper middle class Westerners live a luxury

lifestyle in any Third World Country,  they don't

have to pretend!!.,

It's nice to be able to relax and appreciate the benefits of ones hard work without breaking the bank. Most of us are not Kennedys and relishing of the finer things involves a bit of bragging.

Agreed. So no need to put down posters who are able to do the same on 30k a month or less.

Living on 30,000 Baht for a month isn't living well or enjoying the benefits of hard work. It's merely scraping  by. Sounds more as though he is selling short his retirement prospects for a few years in the tropics. Ant vs the grasshopper come to mind. Not worthy of bragging rites by any account

You sound like you have a serious inferiority complex.

Why would you give a damn what people think - especially other farangs? Are you afraid of people seeing right through you?

No, just avoid people that I don't like.
For example big mouth and big spending farang. People that go to Starbucks, drive Mercedes, etc...

Well, I couldn't do it either but I'm not going to make fun of a guy who can.

You don't have any idea whatsoever what his outgoings are but you feel able to tell him he's "scraping" by.

Maybe he doesn't bankroll a deadbeat local with 3 kids by different fathers or bang gogo girls every night.

You just don't know so you should stop making a fool of yourself

Sounds like you are intimated. How can you judge a person's qualities by the coffee they drink or cars they drive.
I have always found its the poor that make the most noise. The wealthy don't have anything to prove

Just my opinion. Why should I pay more for something that hasn't more value to me like a cheaper product?
Starbucks Vs Amazon, Mercedes Vs Toyota, Apple Vs other phone brands, First class Vs economy class, and so on

30,000 for a single person seems to be okay. Especially if you live in rural area. Doesn't mean you have to miss something etc. It all depends on your desire and attitude

I know what the OP posted. He is selling himself short. He's in his best earning years bragging about living as a welfare kid. Might want to check yourself before calling people fools.

Astonishing superficiality.

Starbucks is just a coffee shop, mate but thanks for proving my assertions correct.

You just feel inferior because those people might have more money than you.

Wrong, I could go there but I don't because it doesn't give me something.

Spending 30,000 for a month is do able. From what he's posted he's not banking any. That's where he's making his error.

i am not trying to save money by boiling my tap water for drinking.  i drink several liters a day and do not enjoy carrying the water bottles to my place every day.  i also do not want a delivery of 200 bottles taking up space in my room.  plus, i do not like generating all the plastic waste.  my friends in hong kong boil their tap water for drinking. that is where i got the idea.  before that, i felt like a water delivery boy as i lugged 5 liter jugs to my place nearly every day.

I do wonder about the hippy/free spirit types who despise the system and "the man", how they wind up in their silver years.    Worried about my niece, she's like that.  Menial jobs, just enough to pay the bills and get by on Kauai.  Moved back to the mainland 6 months ago, 25 years old now, playing small gigs and sidewalk busking with her guitar around San Francisco, traveling, etc.  She's seems to be having a great time living life day by day but....
