These cretins are fooling nobody. I'd be impressed if there was some real efforts made in the first instance but it appears that cremating the body asap was task number 1.

The notion of face trumps any actual search for truth here.. Their fit up of the B2 will always be the yardstick, that was a huge story and the fallout was manageable.

Feel sorry for her relatives. They'll be getting no truthful answers anytime soon

If this had been an incident overseas and the statement was coming from the UK police I would tend to believe it. Coming as it does from the Thai police, who have difficulty distinguishing their ass from their elbow, AND it happened on Koh Tao, I am deeply suspicious. Suicide was the first thing they came out with, before they knew any background information whatsoever, and I fully expect them to stick with that, regardless of what any actual evidence might throw up. Can't go giving Thailand a bad name for the tourists now can we?

Guru linked to Koh Tao's dead Belgian tourist left country: Police

BANGKOK — Police on Monday searched residence that belonged to a spiritual mentor of a Belgian tourist who died on Koh Tao two months ago, a death her family found suspicious.

Media reports said Elise Dallemagne, 30, actively participated in a New Age group led by Raaman Andreas before she was found hanged in a jungle on the island in April. Police said they wanted to question Andreas about the incident, but the self-proclaimed guru had already left Thailand.

“He left the country two months ago,” Deputy Surat Thani police commander Preecha Kladsawad.

European statistics show that whilst 54% of males who commit suicide hang themselves, only 35% of females do so. The method most used by females is by taking a drug overdose usually sleeping pills. So whilst its possible that this poor woman may have committed suicide by hanging it  is unlikely and  it looks like we may never know the cause of death for sure. This becomes more upsetting for her family every day and I send my support to them - my 18 year old son was killed in an accident many years ago so I know a little of how they feel - but loosing a daughter in these circumstances must be far worse.

  RIP young lady.

Forensic investigation is a gaping hole in the Thai police training programme. If they want to know the truth (?) they'll need to invite Dr Pornthip to take the case, and I doubt she is high on their list of people to call.

I read elsewhere police said the family of the victim said they agreed it was a suicide.

I look forward to the family being told and then replying with, "Huh, what?"

It will all be a big misunderstanding again of course.

It doesn't matter what comments are made here.....this a seriously sinister case, and no doubt comments will soon be stopped.

The influence from KT goes above the top!

I don't think we'll ever know what actually happened. The police did their best to obfuscate any real investigation, so what you got left to work with.

I wouldn't surprised either way between suicide or another Koh Tao murder.

Are you talking about the Suthep connection?

Burns down half of the resort she was staying in and mysteriously disappears after booking flight home..... did the owner have fire insurance or was he/she expecting compensation from the girl?

Aah the mysterious foreigner who carried out this foul deed has already left! Poppycock. The island houses a monster and the police KNOW who he is. Can someone please tell the poor girl's family not to believe the official bulls::t.

Highly unlikely?

you do realise 35% means over one in every three right?

as I stated earlier my theory she did try to kill herself with medication first which meant she knocked over the lamp and caused the fire at her first guesthouse that roused her and she fled - realising that hadn't worked she tried it by hanging - either way a tragic case but nothing other than koh toas reputation points to murder so far.

Before hanging herself though she bought another ticket to BKK at the other resort, go figure...

I don't know what to think with all the conflicting police/press reports, is there any news source producing a credible report of what they know happened?.

Easily explained I don't want to post the whole theory again here - but short version - suicidal girl left for mainland in a terrible mental state - Got off at ko toa on a whim - stayed at guesthouse took sleeinng pill overdoes - knocked over lamp started fire - this brought her round and she fled - bought ticket to Bkk but a day later suicidal thoughts returned - goes into jungle and hangs herself - third attempt first was trying to jump in front of a train and was saved - put yourself in the mind of a tortured soul who contemplating suicide and all her actions make sense .. police delay release of story and try to suppress it as last thing they need is another ko Tao farang death reported end of story

Brilliant that must have been  exactly how it went! For sure!

I would be the first one to say previous cases have been extremely suspicious and murders covered up as suicide - but it's ludicrous that it follows from

thar that it's true of every case on koh Tao - let's see what unfolds but so far zero evidence of anything other than a poor girl that had tried to take her own life before tragically succeeding this time

Seems like in Thailand all the evidences in all killing, or murdering or self killing are just getting evidence the way how police want the evidence is should be seen from everybody!

So never ever anything has an eveidence if you see how unprofessional they are handling the facts! And they all not want to see the truth as too many "big heads'" are always involved and they want to see the things handled their way! no matter of the truth! They now want to see!
