Can anyone recommend a welcoming pub for expats and anyone in Buriram central. I've lived in a village 36km toward Nanrong , highway 218. I've been here 5 months and the farm we, my Thai wife of 10 years, are creating is coming on fine. We hired a car at first but were too busy to use it other than a weekly visit to Makro, plus Watsadu.  Everyone in this village is lovely and friendly. I speak no Thai but have become a superb mime artist. One good mate in Nangrong has gone back to UK for a while, duration unknown, so I'm a bit adrift. I'm not looking  for excitement, certainly not a casual legover,  general chit-chat, conversation, will do me fine. Where do the farang hang out, nationality unimportant.

All suggestions gratefully accepted

I was there a few weeks back and I don't know the roads but I can say this. If you are driving into town from all the shopping centers you will come to a stop light just after the Home Pro store. One kilometer or so after that on your right is Dans Sports bar and restaurant, I met a bunch of guys there. Good food too.

In UK we always navigated by pubs, left at the Queens Arms, right at Homepro, so I get your gist. I know where you mean too, Dan's Sport Bar, I will check it out and thanks for the heads up.

Google 'Nookies delights'. I believe he is near your location and has gatherings at his place/shop at weekends (great priced western foods too).

Bury Ram is not only a city, but a whole province. Among other provinces in the N/E, (Isaan) Bury Ram must be the most densly Farang populated province in the N/E.

But as it were, well established Farangs are somewhat hesitant to seek companionship with new "Farang-Arrivals". Rather preferring the company of established old "Farang-Stock".

Something like "let's first see how long the "new-arrival" lasts."

But, for more "coverage", you may want to Google for Forums, that focus in on the N/E of Thailand excusively.
Cheers.

I think you'll find it's Jimmy's bar. Not Dan's.

When you reach the traffic lights, with PMart on the right, you can turn right to the Roma which is about 500m on the right or you can turn left and go to 218 Harley Bar which is about 500m on the left.

Keep it coming guys, I'm getting stir crazy living out here in the sticks and need occasional relief (?) in the form of beer and putting the world to rights via my big gob which needs exercise.

Dilligad, I think you refer to Paul whose irreverence had us all in stitches at Popsuk, Nangrong  during the King's demise. I was a tourist then.  Actually I've been coming here for 14 years but never been to central Buriram.  When I first met the missus and she said she came from  WoollyLamb I near pissed meself laughing. When my one year visa is approved, I'm on 30 day approval waiting the immigration home visit, I shall buy a car and maybe spend a day every week away from the noise of dogs and chickens. This place is so damn noisy.

Hesitant?  Just give me a bar and a beer, cures that.

Not my cuppa tea. Went a couple of times but didn't fancy sitting around in Thailand chatting like a bunch of old women. Each to their own.

To be honest, I've never been so I bow to your experience.

Oh dear, looks like a thumbs down for my local city. But life's what you make it and I didn't expect much from Nangrong but now have three lively minded mates there.  I shall go to see Buriram United in the hope of watching more entertaining stuff than the dire performances I suffered at the City Ground, Nottingham.  I'll find a cheap but clean hotel room where I can crash after a beer or three and go home next day to an earful and probably a slap from the dearly beloved Mrs 218.   And I don't give a damn either.

I had a feeling I had the name wrong but figured he would see the sports bar part anyway. Are these two other bars pretty good?

I think Udon Thani has the most Farangs in NE.

There is a Thailand Forest Supporters Club.

The standard of Thai football is improving but I doubt that the best teams would last in the Championship. Good atmosphere - in and outside the ground.

Dozens of watering holes in Buriram and different groups gravitate towards Paddys, Jimmy's Bar, Lakeside, Harley Route 288 etc.

Thai Forest supporters club, all sad faces nursing half a Shippos mild. I was there for their best years, I suffered their worst. Oh, Cloughie, what a brilliant man you were.  I will meet you guys when I get a car.  My visa is approved, my money can be spent now.

It's like getting out of jail.

Hi Doug, it's not Steve ............... Steve bought Coffee Corner from me a few years back and changed the name to "My Corner".

Roma Pizza and Jimmy's Sports Bar are very good suggestions. Paddy's Irish Bar patrons during the day are a friendly group which includes many of the expats who golf on a regular basis.  Certainly quite a few UK expats are patrons of the long established Bam Boo bar in central Buriram only one block from the Train Station Clock Tower.
