Drug courier arrested after more than 1,000 Ya Ba found stuffed in condoms in fighting cocks

CHIANG MAI: -- Police in Chiang Mai thought they had heard it all when word came from an informer that a drug mule was transporting amphetamines in chickens.

 

But Fang station chief Arunsak Buaprasertying gave credence to the report and sent out his minions to check in the area.

 

On the Fang to Chiang Mai road they saw a man called Charnwut Seuksongkram, 29, with two boxes waiting for a song thaew in the shade outside the Ban Pangsak school in Mae Soon sub district.

 

He boarded an orange song thaew bound for Chiang Mai and the officers soon ordered the vehicle to stop.

 

Inside the boxes were two fighting cocks with suspicious bulges in their necks.

 

They were cut open and found to contain a total of 1,383 orange and green Ya Ba tablets.

 

The drugs were contained in seven condoms that had been stuffed down the throats of the cocks - three in one and four in the other.

 

Charnwut was detained saying that he was taking the cocks and their illicit cargo to Chaiyaphum.

 

Thai Rath said that the enquiry is being expanded to find those behind the operation.
