immigration on the move

They seem to have moved offices on average 4-5 times in 11 years, depending how you look at it.  Do they receive some kind of financial reward for moving?

The government own thousands of Rai of land.  And does anyone know when Korat immigration became part of Division 1? As I recall it was in Division 4. Or was that when they reopened Kap Choeng for the second time and split away?.

It is under division 4 and it never has changed.

Division 1 is only for Bangkok.

Map is here that shows the division's area or responsibilities. https://www.immigration.go.th/branch_center

In the map published by 'Dereklev' the map refers to Korat immigration as being Division 1. Now Immigration do not lie.   rolleyes.gif

I would call that an error on the map.

I trust what is shown on the main immigration bureau website more than it.

I think many variables re moving. Firstly, many municipalities do not own as much land as people think they do, so they cannot just whack a office in the most desirable area. Municipalities out whoop whoop have the land, but Immigration obviously don't want to be there.

Secondly, the move has to not only be signed off by Immigration, but also the local Mayor of where they are moving (which must be voted in favour by the local politicians), and obviously the Governor (who has the final say where it goes). So the Mayor and Governor may be happy with the location, but the Immigration department may not be. Or no one can decide so the office just floats around. My city office is currently in the university whilst all these things get thrashed out.

Thirdly, out of the different Mayors that actually do have the land to offer, many fight to get government offices as it boosts their development. We had a situation in my city where one municipality was trying to pay off certain people to get the immigration office, however, through proper logical/legal avenues it looks like it will be finally going to a different municipality (also Immigration staff wanted that location in the first place).

Maybe one of these variables is happening in this situation.

Any chance of a few area pointers? like what side of the road or any nearby structures, I need to to a 90 day soon, that sounds like almost back to Korat, your map doesn't show up on my browser.

You're lucky they provided a map. If I recall correctly when they left their last office they didn't leave a map or notification. They just upped and moved leaving a notice on the door that they'd closed. It was left up to the likes of members on this forum to do the informing of where they'd moved to. **** ers

Yeah right.

The government has allocated 625,000 rai of land for occupational purposes to communities in 58 provinces.

Yet they can't issue half a rai to build a permanent immigration office. Something wrong somewhere.

I don't think you quite understand how the system works here in Thai. Generally, the land does not just get 'issued' to have an office built from the top (Bangkok). Mayors that have land within their Tessabans have to firstly get the local politicians to approve they want an office (representatives of the people). Then all the Mayors go into almost a bidding contest against each other to get the Governors approval. So they have to propose why their Tessaban is best suited for the office, whether it be strategic location, whatever. Once the Governor has signed it off, Immigration then decide if they want it or not. If they do, then in a few years the building will be start to be built. If they do not want it, then the process starts all over again.

It is the same with all government buildings. My Tessaban passed to build a new prison a few years ago, and they still haven't started building it and wont until next year. We have also just passed with the Governors approval to have the Immigration office built...that is why I have some idea of how it works.

Thank you 'Wildewillie89' I didn't know  about the system. Thanks to you. I'm a little bit wiser, hopefully now.  Thank you.

No worries. It is annoying for me that I know, as the systems can be quite frustrating. But I live in a family of Mayors, politicians, police and Tessaban directors so it is all I ever hear lol. But on the plus side it looks like my Immigration Office will be 2kms down the road from me in the future :).

my route to dan kwain is,304 from korat, left at the zoo turn,on to the 2310 to the main cross rds.224.[then left] carry on till you spot

2large terracotta pots on the right, then you do a u turn then first left into the pottery then immigration.[20mins in total]

so the new route will be the same for me except no u-turn.

its carry on for around 10kilo's past suraneree industrial est.then its left before the traffic lights.

coming from the city its 224 then you have to find a u-turn pst the lights[on my map that is about 20kilo's from korat]

Too easy?

I searched for N.R. immigration (in Thai language) and getting a pointer to the address shown on the handdrawn map in post #2.

And this does not look like some newly rented shack but like a long existing headquarter of immigration region 4 ?

See this Street View, you can "move around":

(the lower line on the plate says "Immigration police 4")

The following is a screenshot from my PC showing old and new location.

(assuming the view is unchanged)

If you drive northbound on 224 and see this quite lone building on the right, then slow down and look out for the left turn to Moo 9 (a big sign over the entrance Soi):

Entrance Soi to Moo 9 looking from the north (can't get it properly on Street View):

https://www.google.co.th/maps/@14.9087286,102.1535838,3a,90y,197.93h,97.16t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1si377delmGy1PCnIN1ntCSQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

(the small sign on the left says "Immigration Division 4")

Straight on and look to the right, hard to miss:

Thanks for your information, but to be honest I'm a little confused, might be an age thing, I travel from Korat when visiting the immigration and it must be a good ten to fifteen kilometres from say the 'Tesco' traffic lights, or from say what's across the road the new 'Home Pro', could you please go on from there with say approximately how far for turning off, and whether the same side or across the road, Thanks, P,S I will have a go at the Goggle map.

I am not familiar with the routes through Korat.

So all I can try:

when coming from the city you probably know how to get to the T-junction of rd. #224 and Ratchanikun rd. at the south-east corner of that canal around the old city?

route.jpg

From there go south on #224 for 8.1 km.

At this distance you will see on the other side the entrance Soi to Moo 9.

Now go on about 500 m to the next U-turn and then up north and turn left to this entrance:

moo9.jpg

Straight on and look out to the right.

Impossible to miss.

They are moving to where immigration division 4 headquarters is located. New address is the same as shown for it on the immigration website.

Seems only logical really. Only took about 12 years to come up with it though. I'll put money on it they'll move office again within 4 years. Any takers?

The address is 'Nakhon Ratchasima'. Not 'Nakorn Ratchasima'. From the map, bottom right.

Firstly, the map shown is much clearer than the one I got today.

However, looking at my map I would say the turning (off the Korat Chok Chai Road, going towards Korat) is somewhere just before the traffic lights where you turn (right) to the Suranani Industrial Estate.

My map says 300 meters down that road on the right.

My map also says 9.2 Km from the old address and that the turning is past Songuan Wonse Industries

Just seen the posted map thats the same as I have except mine is a poor quality B&W copy - Use the map!!

It's in the old division 4 building, it still has the old sign on the wall outside, next door to the drug enforcement building. I only live 5 minutes away up the new by-pass.
