If they ever made a casino here it would be full on.  For property owners, it would be a coup as prices would rise big time. Macau or Hong Kong similar.

All it would take would be a big casino building at lets say; the old boat area near the harbor.

The only thing I'm surprised at is....how many people here are surprised of this.

 

This is standard behavior ANYWHERE in China (despite what a few people claimed here), including their biggest cities like Shanghai and Beijing. Source: 6 years of living in Shanghai on and off.

 

In fact, it doesn't even matter what the education or wealth level is. Proof: instances of this are regularly happening in Hong Kong  and posted in the mainland media. Now, the majority of trips to HK by mainland Chinese are shopping trips of luxury items.

Now this was a modern toilet in a room some four metres by two metres which also contained a handbasin and what she saw was unbelievable (I know because I had to clean it up for her, complete with rubber gloves sprays, disinfectant and a scraper).

 

Now this was something I couldn't understand because there was faeces all over the walls even that wall at the far end of the toilet and it was as if someone had a bucket of excrement and had decided to hand paint it on the wall all over the place (imagine wiping your anus with your hand and smearing that over the walls). Not only that there was excrement behind the toilet, under the seat and all over the cistern – – everywhere in fact.

 

I thought it might have been some sort of "leaving present" for some thing that she supposedly had done, but then most of the stuff had been there for some while and even the carpet on the floor had started to go rotten due to urine on it and it had stuck to the linoleum on the floor as well as smelling so bad it was difficult not to gag. 

 

What was left of the carpet I had to get up with a scraper and the rest of the place was cleaned with bleach, disinfectant and scrubbers and was most disgusting job I've had to do in my life.

 

When all was done, the total room was repainted and new linoleum was put down and to this day I still don't know why this happened.

 

My lady friend said it was due to the fact that even though these students appeared "nice" they came from a lo-so family and this was to be expected – – or words to that effect.

 

Seems like it could be the norm in some parts of China?

Perhaps there should be 'chinese' only toilets, which is just a room with some straw thrown onto the floor?

35 or so years ago in Thailand, I saw a few toilets that didn't look much better.  On one visit to a western doctor's office in BKK, I was reminded by the Doc that no paper was to be flushed down the toilet.

The tourism industry accounts for about 10 percent of gross domestic product of Thailand while according to TAT, tourism is now recognized by Thai leaders and policymakers as "one of kingdom's most successful economic pillars".In recent years, number of Chinese tourists is increasing rapidly, and now accounts for about 30 percent of total foreign tourists visiting the kingdom, which is the biggest share. In certain places, such as North Pattaya, Huay Khwang in BKK, not to mention CM etc, they comprise about 80% of foreign tourists.

 

In the end though, from my experience of living in China on and off the last 6 years, I can tell you that the above has a lot less to do with Thailand itself, than it has to do with China, in fact. The Chinese today are so thirsty to get out of the hellhole called the Mainland, that a) we'll see similar numbers in places like the Philippines (or wherever the government is friendly to the CCP). Yes, the government in China controls everything, including the outbound tourism business. Eg: after the recent spat with S Korea over THAAD, Chinese tourism there dropped by 80%.

 

And the "China dream" has become "emigration". If they cannot fully achieve their "dream", they can at least take as many short and cheap trips out of the mainland as often as possible.

Just explain it to them in a nice way that it is okay only in China but in the civilized world it's unacceptable.

It's become a huge deal in China. S. Korea became enemy no. 1 (in the "rotation" of countries that are the usual suspects) for quite a few months. The government shut down Lotte supermarkets (kid you not, google it) and there was vandalism at a few that stayed open. Basically China, along with many of its "impressionable" people in fact, aspires to have a N Korean type of regime.

One problem THAAD is made by the Americans .. Personally any Chinese caught having a pony and trap in public should be made to it eat it .. In public .. Strong message is what they need ..
