BERLIN (Reuters) - One person was killed in an attack by a lone knifeman in a supermarket in the northern German city of Hamburg on Friday, and four more were injured when the man fled the scene, police said.

The police said the man had suddenly started attacking customers in the shop, with no immediate indication of any political or religious motive. Officers detained him near the site.

"We have no clear information as to the motive or the number of wounded," Hamburg police said in a tweet. "It was definitely a lone attacker." They said initial reports about a possible robbery had not been substantiated.

Police said passersby tackled the man after he fled the scene, injuring him slightly, before plain clothes police officers could take him into custody.

Police have been on high alert in Germany since a spate of attacks on civilians last year, including a December attack on a Berlin Christmas market, when a hijacked truck ploughed into the crowds, killing 12 and injuring many more.

Security has been a campaign issue ahead of Sept. 24 parliamentary elections, in which Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to win a fourth term in office.

Newspaper Bild showed a picture of the alleged Hamburg attacker sitting in the back of a police car, his face concealed with a bloodied shroud.

A video on its website showed a helicopter landed outside the supermarket with armed police in body armour patrolling the neighbourhood.

A troll post has been removed.

If the police don't say the attacker is a genuine German then it is not unlikely that he belongs to that peaceful group of people that criminal chancellor Merkel invited to harrass her people.

This one is going to be extremely difficult to determine a motive. What kind of keystone cops do they have in Germany? The daily mail is reporting that he was shouting "Allahu Akbar" during the attack.

Possibly time to rule out elderly Norwegian women on their way to attend Christian church services. Possibly?

A report dated 29 July and claiming an "unclear motive"???

What a laughable report.

As above:

He is supposed be a "refugee" from the UAE.

He holds no personal documents (the usual tactic of destroying before border passing).

He applied for asylum.

He was known to be radical islamist  and categorized as a potential threat by the authorities.

Of course he shouted the usual allah u akbar at the attack.

Asylum declined and got an order to leave the country.

Such order would imply an involuntary deportation.

Just that "we can not deport him as he holds no documents"!

Such a person being a danger to the public can walk freely in Germany!

There might be thousands of his character in the country.

Similar attacks happened during the last months.

the attacker is an arab muslim executing a terrorattck. he was notorously known by the german police as supporter to salafists.according to the german police statics 2016 muslim illegal migrants commit most violent crimes in germany. merkel and her junta had terror, crime, etc imported by illegal muslim freeloaders. all migrants who entered germany from 2015 upto now are illegal according to the European High Court verdict from last week.

Unfortunately most of the Europe is toast. What the Ottomans didn't manage to do during the 17th century through iron and fire they finally managed to do without firing a shot.

Doesn't sound correct - got a link? As to crime stats some nonsense posted above e.g. other than the Islamist attacks, one German murdered by a 'migrant', some detail.

First it's always motive unclear, then when confirmed it's a Muslim screaming in Arabic carrying out a jihadist attack it's put down to a lone nutter, and not a 'real Muslim/nothing to do with Islam. When will apologists and the leftist denial lobby wake up? The motive was to kill unbelievers in a jihad attack, as ordered by Allah through the Quran, do we really need all the quotes posting again?

the muslim attackers motive was hatred against germans respectively unbelievers. oh yes telegraph.co.uk 26 july eu court rejects "open door policy " 55555 that means merkel acted illegally.

The above is from the OP Reuters report.

If its true the attacker was shouting "allah u akbar" - then its very worrying that the authorities are prepared to outright lie.....

Assuming this is all true - why the hell was he not incarcerated prior to deportation back to the UAE???

yes the german authorities lied like german television......germany has become a nut house with a lot of political lunatics.

the islam attacker was due to be deportet but thanks to red green politics in hamburg blocking such deportations, it didn't happen.

Likely police didn't have confirmed facts at time of Reuters initial reporting of the incident. As we have seen detailed factual information takes a while to be confirmed. There was a murderous attack in Oz a few months back & witnesses claimed the guy was shouting Allahu Acbar - turned out to be BS - the guy was an Australian Greek nutcase.

It isn't lying if you just don't report it, that is just biased reporting.

No - reporting that " no immediate indication of any political or religious motive"  (assuming its true that he was shouting 'alah akbar' at the time of the attack) is an outright lie.

What's with you people - the Right is leading some people into a very dark place with all the anti media conspiracy blah, blah - why follow - take a step back and re-read the OP in the context of the immediate aftermath of the murder - to repeat facts do take time to be confirmed, witnesses statements to be checked etc....

Since the perp was shouting allahu akbar it is a sure sign of his religious orientation

More than a coincidence that Frau Merckel's open-door immigration policy coincided with the Brexit campaign.

Did she consult her EU partners on that,?

Poland & Hungary, probably others too are refusing to accept these people, Italy & Greece  are seriously peed-off, and have big economic problems anyway.

The thing with the EU  is that countries have accept the bad as well as the good decisions of their EU friends, without any consultation it would seem. In coming years many of the masses that Germany has invited into the EU will have German passports, and full freedom of movement.

At the moment its being reported that he was shouting this religious slogan.

If it turns out that these reports are just " the Right is leading some people into a very dark place" - then I'll be suprised and happy.

Edit - happy, because I like the Pakistanis that moved into the UK decades ago.  They adopted UK 'norms' and worked very hard to become part of our society.
