Avatar Letters

Featured Replies

Find new system extremely confusing as need to know names of posters if they do not use personal avatar - when two people registered with name starting with "T" are displayed as the same avatar it is very hard to keep track of a conversation.  Can we turn off?  With just the old same for everyone you looked at name but now we are splashed with a huge colored letter that cannot be ignored.  Not an improvement IMHO.

Yeah I can't really see any benefit to it. It isn't like the first letter of an alias is very distinguishing.

I wish more people would post an avatar. I remember avatars much more easily than names.

I have gotten accustomed to the letters now. At first it bothered me a little.

I think putting the letter of the first or last name is standard on many websites now. Yahoo and Google use it now for the first name.

I have a sneaking suspicion the change in the default avatar was in fact made to induce more members to upload a personal avatar. The old default image always reminded me of one type of target used for shooting practice in the Swiss army.

The new system is a big change, but I am optimistic about getting used to it within a few months.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Hi,
