CHIANG MAI: -- Flash flooding in Chiang Mai on Monday morning damaged five homes, swamped 10 rai of farmland and closed a section of the Tha Ton-Mae Ai Road (Highway 107).

Heavy rains triggered the flooding between 4 and 6am in three villages in Mae Ai district’s Tambon Tha Ton.

Workers had by late morning cleared the roadway of mud, tree branches and other debris.

Chiang Mai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation chief Pairin Limcharoen said the damaged homes were in Ban Hua Muang Ngam Moo 11 and the flooded farmland in Ban Pha Tai Moo 12 and Ban Muang Ngam Tai Moo 13.

They should have believed the "government" then there would be no floods.

I know all three villages well.  Its a tough life up there. Village #12 is a Lahu village and village #13 is a Karen village.  I hope everyone is safe. There was one ex-pat in village #13, a Brit if memory serves me right.
