"Liverpool" Holy Cloths prove a big hit at Ang Thong temple

An abbot at a central Thailand temple was surprised by the high demand for his holy cloth featuring top English Premiership football team Liverpool.

So much so that abbot Wirun Thammarak was nowhere to be found yesterday as hordes of superstitious Thais turned up clamoring to get one of his specially designed cloths.

The cloths - sold to raise money for the temple of Wat Phai Moo Khawit - became famous after they were featured in the news media.

The temple quickly sold out and the abbot went to ground.

Though a spokesman promised that a further limited edition of the lucky cloths would be made available to the faithful shortly.

Liverpool, one of the most popular teams in Thailand, are riding high this season after two wins and a draw from their first three matches that has left them in second behind Manchester United.

Great marketing idea.... meanwhile, the monk has gone to ground before the Liverpool lawyers get hold of him, demanding a cut of the profits for using their logo/ trademark ???
