Plara factory ordered to get rid of stench

By The Nation

Public health officials inspected a fish-fermenting factory in Sa Kaew on Saturday morning after residents complained of a stench for more than three years to the Interior Ministry.

Officials of Sa Kaew province and Wang Somboon district tested the facility in Tambon Wang Mai district and confirmed that the operation was producing a strong smell.

The factory produces plara, a northeastern style of fermented fish that uses large earthenware jars, in this case almost 100 jars.

Officials ordered the factory to eliminate the smell by September 25 when they would return for a follow-up inspection.

If it stinks so bad during the preparation, then they are doing something wrong.

Only took 3 years to investigate ??

When I pass the barrels/jars with plara at the market I have to hold my breath.

Simply can't get used to it, can't sustain it.

When plara is prepared at the outdoor kitchen I am warned beforehand
