Khon Kaen police stop pickup hauling 494kg of marijuana

By The Nation

Khon Kaen police intercepted two alleged drug mules carrying 494 kilograms of marijuana from Nakhon Phanom to Chon Buri early Thursday.

Pol Col Apichart Phochan, commander of Highway Police Subdivision 4, said his men had been tipped off about a regular smuggling operation and set up a checkpoint on Mittraparb Road in Nam Pong district.

A pickup truck was stopped and searched at 1.30am and 494 bricks of compressed marijuana, each weighing a kilogram, were found in 13 plastic boxes.

Apichart said Wassana Phukhamkong and Chanachai Sarithip admitted to being paid Bt3,000 for transporting the pot and had successfully made the run three times previously.

Using Mittraphap road (friendship highway) is not the smartest route for smuggling.

You must be lucky NOT to pass one or more checkpoints.

Strange route from Nakon Phanom to Chonburi ?

Why not going to Mukdahan , Ubon , Buriram , Kabinburi....

And yes, a big detour. They should get a navigation device
