Go to Morchit (2) for a regular bus.

I see a site in Thai language that says:

bus #9907, Bangkok - Chanthaburi

06.30,

12.20,

14.00

bus #9908, Bangkok - Trat (very sure making a stop in Chanthaburi)

07.30,

11.00,

17.00,

22.00

Travel time 4 hours, 249 km, fare 187 Baht.

Hopefully a local can confirm.

It's an ordinary AC bus, no "VIP" or the like.

Yes a Cherdchai Tour bus and it is a very similar standard to the one in the picture:sad:

unfortunately that's all that is available other than a death trap minivan!

No. There is nothing unfortunately. The only decent big bus from Pattaya stopped that route more than a year ago. It's disappointing for someone like me like that likes to visit  Koh Chang regularly and refuses to use death trap minivans.

A word of caution, if anyone asks where you are going before you get into the main terminus building at Ekkamai, keep walking on by, as they will try and foist you onto the second class bus which takes ages, stops at every lamppost, can get horribly crowded, sometimes goes the 'long way round' through Pattaya and Rayong.

Head to the window inside (on the far right hand side) and ask for 'Pornipa Tour' who run a decent service which takes around 3 hours to Chanthaburi.

Ekkamai has the government 999 buses which are much better than the Cherdchai tour buses/service.  But they're not VIP.

From Pattaya if you wanted to get a big bus you'd have to travel out to the main road where the bus goes past, which is at least 30-45 minutes away from Pattaya I guess.  And you'd obviously have to book and pay in advance and let them know where to pick you up from.  Essentially it'd be a lot of hassle.

Minivans from Pattaya are easy enough, I always try and sit at the back of them, if you crash better survival rate I reckon.

Where you are starting from makes a big difference. There are no "VIP" busses that I know of but you could take a taxi for about 2400 baht.

For busses that are fairly comfortable you have 3 options.

Morchit has several busses during the day although I believe there are no evening busses. Don't go there much as I usually stay east of town. Miss most of the traffic as it takes the motorway north of town.

Ekami has busses leaving often. Pornipa is usually faster and better busses but sometimes if not enough passengers they will take you to the motorway in a minivan and transfer you to the Morchit bus as it passes. Chartchai is ok but stops to let people  off often and ca slow the trip alot, i have had up to 5.5 hours. There is also 999 busses. I have never taken them from Ekami but busses i have taken with them have been very good. All from Ekami suffer from Sukhumvit traffic until they get to the expressway.

My favorite is Suvanabhumi bus station. 999 has morning and early afternoon busses that are very good and fast as they avoid the bangkok traffic.

Find a driver with a good car and do it right.  Price-value is worth every baht.  From Pattaya or Rayong you'll probably be looking at 3-4K THB each way but you are in control. If driver is driving like a maniac you can tell him to stop (and he will) and you can stop when you want..., where you want.

300THB on a bus that smells like a latrine...,

400THB Not "VIP" mini-bus..., Buriram driver (full-on scary)

Every time..., free is worth exactly what you pay for it.

There is a free shuttle from the terminal to the transport station located on northeast corner of the airport property. I can probably dig up bus times if you need. I took a picture of the timetable last year.

Is the 999 bus from Ekkamai bus that you refer to coloured orange silver and blue (like in the picture shown) because I had no idea it was still running. There used to be three of these every day starting about 6 AM passing through Pattaya and then to Chantaburi and terminating in Trat.

I simply can't understand why they cut out Pattaya as if there are no customers at all from here. I used to go to Koh Chang on this bus about once every two or three months but I did notice there were also a lot of farang visa  runners using this bus to get to the Cambodian border at Hat Lek. Maybe after the changes in Visa policies the foreigners stopped using this bus there were also huge amount of of Navy staff who got off at the naval base in Sattahip and also school kids. In fact when you got on the bus in Pattaya it was often standing room only for the first hour.

i contacted AOT they said only 2 buses :

BUS NO 9907 to Chanthaburi at 7h20 AM

BUS NO 9908 to Trat at 12h40 PM

I can't find the timetable picture I took last year. From memory there were 4-6 busses per day run by The Transport Company, aka 999. Could have changed or AOT doesn't include them in their list. Last time I left from there was march.

need to update this. Options have shrunk considerably. Just came home to Chan yesterday. Stopped by the airport transport center on my way through and the sign at 999 no longer includes busses to Chan. There are a few busses to Laem Ngop and Trat that probably stop in Chan but I didn't ask.

Took Chart Chai from Ekami. Pornipa no longer has busses from there. Their departure bays have been taken over by Chart Chai. There was still a small booth for Pornipa on the right but it was unmanned and dark. Chart Chai is now on the left. 999 only has one bus to Chan at 7:45 am.

Ekami feels like it is fazing out busses and turning into a minivan hub for the eastern seaboard.

the best is the government buss not sure of times now used to leave around 10.30 the busses are kept like new and drivers are very good, the booking office is in the front center of the building not on the right side of the building where the other ticket counters are.
