Father, 72, hangs himself in Chon Buri

By The Nation

SATTAHIP: -- An ailing 72-year-old man was found hanged in a house in Chon Buri's Sattahip district in what is believed to be a suicide so that his son could work without having to worry about him.

The son, Thanaroj Lekmaneechote, 32, told police that he came to take his father to see a doctor at 10am, only to find that he had hanged himself and died.

The father, Wicha Lekmaneechote, had been living alone for many years because his son had to work in Pattaya.

Thanaroj said his father had recently had a spine problem and had to walk with difficulty, so he planned to take him to the doctor.

He said his father used to complain that he would like to die so that he would not hold his son back and affect his work. However, he told his father that he was willing to take care of him.

Echoing the sentiments above; sad that universal health care is not available for all and at the same time respect for the man for having the courage to do all he thought he could for his kid(s).

RIP.

Noble Man.

Unusual for Thais, who are averse to suicide, a sin in Buddhism. Very common in Japan. Practical people who care for the well being of relatives. Elderly often commit suicide to "relieve the burden" on rels.

Still, he had 2 more than his alloted 3 score + 10, so good bye.
