Philly Cheese Steak

Featured Replies

Anyone know where to find good ones in Bangkok or some kind of comparable sandwich. Subway does not count so please don't say Subway.

Okay might not be a philly cheese steak but have you tried a Vietnamese banh mi?

A restaurant called Vietnamese and more is highly rated.

I have tried banh mi. It is good but not the same thing.

I can only suggest Subway then. :sorry:

I prefer Subway to the more authentic versions. Really very overrated food.

El Osito (next to La Monita) in Mahatun Plaza next to BTS Ploenchit

The OP says, "don't say Subway" so three posters say Subway, too funny!.

There was one for a while in the tower on Sukhumvit between Soi 2 and the Expressway. Sorry, I don't live in Bangkok any more and don't remember the name of the tower, but it's got a McDonald's on the ground floor. There wasn't enough demand and they went out of business at least ten years ago. I doubt there is any place in Thailand that sells them. The Thais are not big on cheese.

The Black Swan on Sukhumvit Soi 19 does a decent one

Try the Smokin Pug near Lumpini park ... they have just moved so google their new address.

The Brisket is to die for ! ask them to stick it in a sandwich for you and you have it !

American Bar & Grill on Sukhumvit Soi 8 in Bangkok. Completely authentic and delicious. 085-486-1144.

Mr. N.

Usual rule is that it is tough to duplicate ny pizza outside of NYC.. lived in Philly a while back. They don't put enough meat on the hoagie here. Gotta make it yourself.

Good luck. Hy Lit.

Not really. A Philly isn't made with brisket.

It's gonna be hard to find because they put CHEESE WHIZ on a steak "sammich" in Philly.  OMG.

That's American cheese in a can, in case you Europeans don't know what real cheese tastes like. ?

Well, smutcakes, that is your opinion. However, I agree with MrNeilThai; hard to beat a good Philly Cheesesteak. If you have not had a good one, you would not know. Banh mi, although very good is definitely not the same and Subway, well; if you like Subway, you probably like McDonald's, It's a shame very few foreigners know American food, they seem only to know our trashy fast food.

MrNeil, sorry, I cannot help you. I have not found one.

I grew up in the US. Just south of Tampa.

Serves him right for not just googling this.

You reap what you sow. Vast majority of TV members are not even Americans so have no idea what he is talking about. It was dumb to post here.

You don't have to be American to understand what a philly cheese steak sub is, just like you don't have to be Mexican to understand what a Taco  or a  Burrito is! But you do have to have some local knowledge to know where to find good ones, something that google can't do for you!  Out.

Sorry

philly cheese steak sounds really gross- maybe some Roquefort?

But good luck with your hunting for this delicacy- whould it not be easier to make it yourself?

the american bar and grill on sukhumvit soi 8 has a decent philly cheese steak sandwich.  i had one a few times.  but now when i'm in need of a quality beef sandwich, i go to roadhouse BBQ and get the BBQ brisket of beef sandwich.  very tasty.

edit - i read this thread earlier today but didn't post until this evening.  now that i've reviewed the newer responses, i see someone else has mentioned the american bar and grill.

isn't the American bar soi 8 opposite Lolitas? that would end up being a very expensive sandwich for me [emoji4]
