“Dinner in the Sky” comes to Bangkok

Dining in the sky 50 metres above the ground is set to provide a new high-altitude experience as “Dinner in The Sky” takes off in Bangkok starting from December 20.

Featuring the world’s only suspended dinner table, 22 guests are fixed securely in German TUV-approved safety harnesses, enjoying a four-course gourmet dinner prepared by Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit and accompanied by incredible city views above the Emporium and Dinosaur Planet – straight off BTS Phrom Phong.

Guests will be seated around a large dinner table with the entire Dinner In The Sky system suspended by a 200-tonne European telescopic boom crane. The experience promises front row seats to the most astonishing views the city has to offer, either at sunset or late on into the night sky. Free Uber riders to and from the experience are also arranged.

“Thailand has always been recognised as a leader in Asia for dining options of all kinds. But Dinner In The Sky is Thailand’s first high-end dinner table to be suspended and served at this altitude. This innovation encourages guests to take their eating experience to new heights,” said Friso Poldervaart of Dinner In The Sky Thailand.

Dinner In The Sky has operations in more than 45 countries including France, USA, Holland, Colombia, China, Macau, Denmark, Finland, Japan, Sweden, Taiwan, and Portugal.

“We have a catering team on site headed by executive chef Gaetano Palumbo who has designed a menu that perfectly complements the extraordinary high-altitude experience on first take-off,” added Robert Wittebrood, executive assistant manager of Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.

Dinner in the Sky is designed according to German safety standard DIN 4112 regarding flying structures specifications, and has surpassed world-leading German TUV-accredited standards. Based in Kuala Lumpur, DITS ASIA chose Thailand to become the second Southeast Asian country after Malaysia in 2015.

Seats are sold online at www.Dinnerinthesky.co.th for Bt4,990 on weekdays and Bt5,390 on weekends, inclusive of the four-course meal. There will be two flight sessions per day; sunset at 6pm and city lights at 7.30pm. The flight duration is 60 minutes.

Experience over the years thought me that when it comes to a gimmick

in food usuaulay the food quality will be lacking Sheraton or not,

not to mention the price that in most case doesn't justify the experience,

i'll stick to a dinner in the sky when i fly....

Probably very safe equipment...and I've seen this idea used in a few places.......
What they fail to mention is that Somchai is in the crane seat!
He will fall asleep at some stage, slump forward and bang his head on the red lever ... and then dissappear into the night

The Hopewell Centre in Hong Kong has the Revolving Restaurant, aptly re-named the Revolting Restaurant by locals for the low standard of food.

banyan tree is awesome.

cranes in Thailand will lack maintenance, what happens when the winch motor seizes and there is a 3 week wait for parts?

yeah banyan in my opinion is still bkk's best rooftop place and there's loads now. banyan is still the best

Dont see why this is seen as high end dining? Having experienced so called chef prepared food in first class on BA on many flights, I would state that the food in flight loses a lot of flavour. Along with the strapping in to dine and the possibility of dying with half a Lobster hanging out of my mouth does not appeal.

I would prefer to dine with a river view on Tera firma thank you very much.

I bet somebody already has a note in his drawer stating exact figures how much profit will increase, if they skip mandatory routine security checks and maintenance.

Sixty minutes to get your food and drink down and the obvious risk involved.  Count me out.

We do a dinner night out in BKK every so often with SIL's BIL's and so on. Every time a different person picks up the tab etc.

If the restaurant has a 6 -8 and 8-10pm system we won't go.

Don't like the idea of 'got to finish this or that on a time table' may as well have someone standing at the end of a table with a whistle dictating start and finish times and snatching your plate away when you haven't finished what's on it.
