Delays expected in building of Nakorn Pathom to Cha-Am motorway

Thai media reported that the proposed motorway from Nakorn Pathom to Cha-Am is in danger of not being finished on time.

 

The 109 kilometer road being built at a cost of 72 billion baht was slated to be finished by 2019 but this is now in doubt.

 

The plans have run into budgetary and land expropriation difficulties that need to be resolved first.

 

Daily News reported that similar problems are also besetting the Bang Yai - Kanchanaburi motorway plan. A 65 billion baht budget was allocated for the road to the west but costs have rocketed by 16 billion baht due also to land expropriation issues.

 

There was, however, some good news - the Pattaya to Maptaput extension work looks to be on schedule with only one plot of agricultural land currently in dispute.

 

The motorway going south would be a boon for those travelling from Bangkok to the seaside resorts at Cha-Am and Hua Hin in particular.

 

The road would have nine toll booths starting with Nakorn Chaisri and ending at Khao Yoi as per our map today.

Paying a total of 2 tolls each way going to/from Pattaya/Bangkok these past 7-8 years hasn't broken anyone's bank. With the huge increase in road traffic over the same period, paying maybe 5 more tolls for a well-maintained, fast motorway is worth it. Otherwise, take (at least) 5 hours out of your busy schedule and stick to Highway 3.

 

The likelihood of being pulled over by cops on the motorways is significantly less than on the nations dual-carriageway national highways. What are you doing wrong?

Well, how do you expect the roads to be paid for? let the users pay for the use of the roads. Better yet, take the bus.  :)

No doubt we will have to pay to use this relatively empty road and then see 80kph speed limit signs flashing all the way.

Shame they didn't settle all the land expropriation before they started to lay the concrete !!

Maybe some of the  land expropriation problems are caused by government officials and people of influence finding out about the planned route beforehand and buying up land cheaply from the unsuspecting original owners. Then hold out for a much higher sale price once the project goes ahead. I would love to see an investigation of the chanotes of the land along transport routes to see how long ago the current owners purchased the land.

I have never been pulled over by police at a toll booth.

Road tax...thats paid for building and upkeep of highways. Petkasem is never a problem anyway,

I travel on a regular basis from Pattaya_Hua Hin via Bang Na and Rama two. I would say almost every time at one of the toll ways police are stopping vehicles.

Just out of interest are they just pulling over pick up trucks or does it seem to be non discriminate?

Don't think the final toll booth is at Khao Yoi. The map shows two Khao Yois about 30 km apart, and it's only a little place. The last one is almost in Cha-Am.

I travel regularly from Cha AM to Chiang Mai there are many checkpoints on the way that I go through but I have never been stopped once not even a licence check.

 

As for toll booths, I don't mind at all as long as the money is used for the upkeep of the road it's a small price to pay 

 

If  this Motorway does happen I will certainly take advantage of it.
