Hi

Apologies if this has been covered.

According to the application, I have to declare and send all uncancelled passports my son holds as part of the renewal process of his UK passport. Is this necessary to declare and send his Thai passport? Will they accept copies or can I just stay quiet?

Thanks

Simon

looking at that section 3, then it would seem that all passports UK and other that are not expired need sending, as long as they are in the same name there should be no problem.

are you in the UK applying

I have just had a passport done for my son I did not send any passports with his application but had to send coloured copies of every page including the frond and back cover of his and my passport ( my son only 8 years old so they needed my details also)

It most certainly is - and the names in both passports must be the same.

Frankly, I don't remember. But unless they have yet again changed the process, you take all originals with you to Trendy, and receive them back once checked.

Correct was the same only last month but copies were required

Never done that for my daughter, who holds both.  never been questioned about it either.

The UK government has no more right to  hold or dispose of another country's passport than the Thais have to do the same, they just like to make out that they have.  A passport remains the property of the issuing authority, in this case Thailand, as the UK Embassy is fond of pointing out.

The process for applications in Thailand does not require the handing-over of your foreign passport, but HMPO does now require dual nationals to declare if they have a passport in their non-UK nationality, and to submit a full copy of it with the copy of their UK passport when they apply. This has been well-covered in previous threads on this forum.

You may not agree with it, but it's not an unreasonable measure to help combat criminality and terrorism. Those affected may choose not to comply, and of course nothing may happen if they don't. But the person in the UK who processes the application might wonder, if he's looking at a UK passport application from Thailand with no Thai entry/exit stamps how the applicant comes to be there, and the obvious answer would be that the applicant has another passport. I believe there's something on the application form that says a false declaration renders you liable to prosecution. I'm not aware that this has happened to anyone yet.
