A man and a woman were hit by a train and severely injured while posing for photos on railway tracks at Samsen Railway Station early Thursday, police said.

Their friend, Amornthep Tipnongwaeng, 25, told police that the three of them had been drinking alcohol along the tracks near the railway station at 4am when Walailak Sukama, 28, and Amnaj Nawantib, 25, wanted to take photos with an outbound train in the background but failed to notice the approach of an inbound train on another track.

It was unclear why the pair failed to notice an oncoming train.

Pol Captain Wisanusak Sueb-in, deputy inspector of Samsen Police Station, was alerted of the accident at 5am.

He said Walailak had her right leg amputated after she was hit and dragged by the train, while Amnaj was knocked unconscious.

Both were taken to Vajira Hospital.

Amornthep said the three had been drinking in the area for about an hour when his friends decided to pose with the outbound train.

Wisanusak said police had not yet checked footage from security cameras in the area and not decided whether to file charges.

Elementary Holmes......brain dead!

Hope we get to see some of the pictures taken. Pretty dark at that time of the morning so not much hope for great pix.

Bugger, no video, I was rather hoping that they would educate other brain dead morons of the dangers of getting too close to a couple of hundred tons of moving metal, never mind, I feel sure that there will be a copycat attempt in the next few days. :whistling:

a friend was on the phone to her niece who was walking along train tracks and was hit by a train and killed during the call. very sad but also not a very sensible thing to do.

the sad fact is that here you see people doing stupidly dangerous things every day

Hold on love have to pose with train won't be long, where on earth did they get their education from. second thoughts i know.

Its just natural selection of Thais , who should live and who should die.

If you want to marry a girl here , better make sure she is over 30 , if she actually managed to live that long there is hope.
