Actor avoids jail again over ‘kraab rot’ road rage incident

The Appeals Court has upheld the two-year suspended jail term given former actor and TV host Akanat “Nott” Ariyaritwikul over a 2016 road rage case in Bangkok that became notorious online under the hashtag “kraab rot ku”.

Prosecutors wanted Akanat, who has since changed his first name to Thee, jailed as an example to others, but the Appeals Court on Tuesday deemed the primary court’s sentence appropriate.

Akanat, then 30, and his friend Wittawat Sribunditmongkol, 29, were originally sentenced last June to two years in prison for assaulting motorcycle messenger Kittisak Singto, 27, and forcing him to kowtow to Akanat’s car in apology for bumping into it.

The November 4, 2016, incident was recorded by passers-by and the video widely shared online.

The same court then halved the jail term and suspended it for two years because the accused had confessed and Akanat had paid the victim Bt180,000 in compensation.

The two were also ordered to perform 24 hours of social service and report to probation officers four times a year.

Akanat reportedly did his 24-hour service by donating blood and cleaning temple and school toilets and will meet his probation officer for the fourth time on March 3.

I'm confused, he was Akanat, they call him Nott, and now he's changed his name to Thee. Maybe next week it will be Elvis.

What is that confession worth as there were many people who saw it plus video evidence?

A confession is normally used to shorten proces time as there is less dispute about what happened. But Thailand does not seem to understand the concept completely as it should only apply when there is a dispute that cannot easily be solved.

At least he got something in the way of light punishment and I wouldn't mind betting the feels harshly treated.

Report four times a year?  A bit like being a foreigner on 90 day reports really.

Elvis has already left the building,,,,,

Contrary to other posters here  I think he was treated harshly , comparatively speaking of course..

Drunken truck drivers appear to be handing over 10k and 20k  to their dead victims families , yet Thee gave away 180k and he only knocked around a kid who had actually damaged his car. Not that it was a good thing to do !

Do the truck drivers assault anybody? This moron did. He assaulted and bullied and public ridiculed someone who couldn't stand up to him and his mate.

It's the assault, bullying and ridicule he's been convicted of.

"Drunken truck drivers appear to be handing over 10k and 20k  to their dead victims families".

Where has that been reported?

Contrite looking little pr**k isn't he (in OP photo)?

Loss of face, change name, start all over again with a clean sheet? Sounds like religion to me. :cheesy:
