John is very lucky all the other Thais in the vicinity didn't join in and kick the daylights out of him and stomp his head. John is just a "guest" in their country and has no right whatsoever to show aggression towards any Thai.

Being in the "right" don't add up to a mound of @%$#! for a farang .

Great logic. You must be a rocket scientist.

I'm going with silly John...

He only got a knife wound on his hand, could so easily been a much more tragic ending...

Get the G/F another phone on insurance, or get another G/F if you don't have insurance...

Have a go heroes often end up deceased !!!

Then again back in UK in the early 80's my mates father was an ex para in his early 70's ( work out the dates ) who kept himself in good shape.

I watched one night as he picked up a local 20 something hard nut by the neck, with one hand and shook him like a rag doll.

Don't dis' some of the old guys.

It might help if you yourself (and those other apologists here) stopped using the derogatory "farang" word to describe themselves.

We are not "farang". We are westerners, Europeans, English, etc. not some guttural word used by the Thais to look down on us and point the finger. And yes, I am very aware of where the word originates but after living in Thailand for over a decade, I also know exactly how it is used, not as a curiosity as you would have it explained but as a means of bad mouthing people who are not Asian, not Thai and from the aforementioned countries and areas.

Personally I care less if other or myself are called farang. I word doesnot upset me sorry. I used to be called gringo years ago in Mexico that meant nothing to me also. It is only offensive if you chose to make it offensive. My choice is it is not offensive.

To put it in simple terms  When in Rome be a Roman.

I go the other way on this. If someone refers to me as a farang I just start calling them a slope.

Too bad, you left the iPhone openly to tempt him.

Easy done, and glad the thieving B was apprehended...

As for the assault with a deadly weapon, should be charged and dealt with by the courts whether or not the victim presses charges...

What next, murders getting away with murder because the victims can not press charges.

Due to the big age gap she probably thanked him by giving him the night off !! [emoji51]

Hey, this is Thailand they do think like that.

Why folks still leave their smart phones on desks and out of their posesion?

Better to be a dead hero than live to be his next victim.

In this case the victim was some one close to him

Interesting concept... Each to their own I guess...

Like I said, some things are just not worth it.

That's admirable but back in the 80s mindless stabbings were not the norm.

Even if the young lad had come out on top, it probably would've just ended with a black eye or 2 :)

No, I'm a realist and not a keyboard warrior. I'm sure you would have done the same as Silly John, good for you !

If someone was to hurt my family or threaten us, then it would be different.

I'm just not materialistic enough to get killed over a phone.

And that was the result based upon todays experiances of the kind of service you mentioned? :cheesy:

Right. It was the iPhone users problem......a thief is a thief is a thief. They are always on the lookout for something to steal.....get a grip!

Yes, his girlfriend.

They were on holiday from Chaiyapum.

She had been to the massage shop to say hello to one of her friends from Chaiyapum who works there.

John had been off visiting a friend of his (who owns a bar in Koh Samui) and returned to find that his GFs (fiancee actually) phone had gone missing.

Hope that's cleared everything up for you.

He is 66 and she is 29. I am sure this wedding is for love and they will live happily ever after...as long as he doesn't live to long.

Nice job on catching the thief though.

Seriously, as long as she is 18+, why do you care?

Are you the moral authority of Thailand ?

.

How did John know which thai to arrest, was he waiving the iPhone X around.
