From Khon Kaen to Udon Thani

Hi,

I will spend the weekend in Khon Kaen and UT. Will travel from KK to UT this Sunday and planned to do so by train. I now saw that the train would leave around 9.30-ish in the morning which might be a bit too early for me. The next train, according to the info I found, will leave too late (after 17.00). As this is going to be my first ever trip to KK and UT, could anyone let me know if there are regular busses (ideally not vans) going from KK to UT and if they all leave from the local bus terminal #3? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

DUS

I did never take the bus, but there are definitely busses going from KK to Udon, maybe you can find the timetables online, usually the bus companies in Thailand have websites. Try to get a bus to bus terminal #1 (next to central plaza) in Udon, bus terminal #2 is outside of the city and you would have to take a tuktuk from there to get in the city,

Tons of buses.

KK to Udon, up HW #2 (Mitraphap, Friendship Highway), one of the busiest routes in Isan.

Routes from Bangkok and eastern/south-eastern Isan go through KK to Udon (and Nong Khai).

Guess about one per hour or more.

I am confident a local living in KK city will know details.

from the original bus station near the town hall,

?

The "old" bus station on the central through road ("Prachasamoson") is DEFUNCT (since quite a while).

That's what I am sure because I passed by today on my way home.

Only some "Baht buses" parked.

Seems like the "aircon bus terminal" on Glang Muang rd. is also defunct, mini buses only.

But it's a while that I was in that area. So not 100% sure.

All traffic via terminal 3 in the south?

Thank you all for your feedback so far! Much appreciated!

The good news is that it sounds like there are busses going regularly to UT so that I don’t have to catch the early morning train. Now the only thing I have to do once I get to KK is to check where the busses are leaving from.

Again, thx for your replies!
