Police have arrested a hill-tribe Akha man after he allegedly delivered 28 kilograms of crystal meth ¬- or “ice” - to an undercover officer in Chiang Rai.

Amin Mayer, 40, was arrested on Sunday night after the sting operation in a car park at a shopping mall in Tambon Wieng Phang Kham, Mae Sai district, about five kilometres from the Myanmar border.

The undercover officer contacted Amin and arranged for him to deliver the drug by the side of a road in Ban Phamee village.

He was arrested when he went to the car park to collect the promised Bt7.5 million.

Police found that the bag he left on the roadside contained 28 kg of the drug.
