Former British Steel engineer John Toms, 68, was going through a bitter divorce when he was found dead next to a swimming pool in Pattaya, last Wednesday// VIRAL PRESS

FRIENDS of the retired British engineer who plunged to his death from an 18th floor room in Thailand believe he may have been murdered.

The 68-year-old, seen here with his ex-wife , Thanyaporn, was found dead near a swimming pool in Pattaya

He had "spent a fortune" on his "former hooker" wife - buying her a car, motorcycle and supporting her family - before discovering she was cheating on him two years ago.

Sources close to John are now calling on local cops investigate the fall amid suspicions he was pushed or murdered several hours BEFORE being hurled off the condo balcony.

Very sad indeed.. If he was murdered, it wasn't for a great deal of money which shows just how greedy some people can be !!!

The police will never investigate this properly, they have concluded it was suicide and that will be the end of it..

RIP fella..

I didn’t think there was any money - earlier reports were of debts of £100k.

Not sure who benefits from this death - the wife is already sorted and the GF is not entitled to anything, unless she was nominated for any occupational widow’s pension.

sounds like elementary forensics; if she gets all that is left, and should the divorce not be final, sounds like she will, well then...

Which “she”...the wife ?

I imagine she has everything (such that it was) anyway. - I doubt he would have benefited financially from the divorce.

Never tell about any money. Always say that you have to save for buying things. If taking on a debt always state that now we can not buy more until the payment is finished.
Hide you bankbooks and passport.

Because this article come from The Sun I suspect the friends are people who knew him prior to him moving to live in Thailand. It is likely he was a changed person after his experiences here.

If he was killed some time prior to the fall, the autopsy should have found this, if they looked. I would expect some more evidence too. It is all very sad but nothing will happen.

There is probably no doubt that the fall killed him .

The question is : Whether he jumped or he was thrown off

And if the condo was locked from the inside and no evidence of a struggle that looks unlikely.

Was the front door bolted from the inside or was it one of those push button locks , which you press on the way out ?

Also , it would have been quite easy for the wife to arrange a meeting with a mutual friend to discuss the situation .

The mutual friend visits , suggests a drink /smoke on the balcony , a hefty shove and goodbye

The original thaivisa thread (and the sun story it links to) said the guy was living with the new girlfriend, the new girlfriend was asleep in bed when he jumped.
