Hmong man, 93 passes physical fitness exam to own rifle

By The Nation

A Chiang Rai district chief has given the thumbs up to a Hmong grandfather aged 93 and approved his physical fitness to own a rifle.

Khamron Sripho, Wieng Kaen district chief, said he has endorsed the physical fitness of the Hmong man, who submitted an application to own a rifle.

Yi Saewa, a resident of Moo 6 village in Tambon Muang Yai, submitted the application to the village headman, who found that he met all the requirements but taking account of the applicant’s age, passed the application to the district chief to consider.

Khamron said it was amazing that Yi passed all the physical tests including a sight examination and found him fit and firm and thus approved the application. The Hmong grandfather will be given a license to buy and own a rifle once police check the criminal database and guarantee he has no criminal record, Khamron added.

Yi lives with his 48-year-old third wife with whom he has a son. Both his previous wives died but between them gave him four daughters and six sons, all of whom have married and moved away.

Yi said he has never fallen ill and never consulted a doctor thanks to drinking a herbal solution prepared to a family recipe. He is still active on his farm, he said.
