Yes, but that has no bearing on the car insurance. The car can be insured, even if the owner doesn't have a valid DL. The person driving the car and the person in who's name the insurance is don't have to be the same. So yes, not having a valid DL can invalidate the insurance, but only of the person driving the car.

Thanks for all the advices...I’ll proceed to get a Thai driver’s license (as instructed by my insurance broker) as I am the owner of the car and I’ll be the only person driving the car.

I just negotiated to get the first year Class 1 insurance included in the purchase of a new car. My question is does the dealer purchase the insurance and I just sign the insurance documents when I pick up the car? Also, does dealer Class 1 insurance include collision coverage?

No need to sign anything.

 

Yes, first class insurance includes collision coverage.
