We are over in November for a week in Ayutthaya, and want a few places to visit during the week we are there, any suggestions please for places within an hour or 2 to visit?  So far we've got:

Wat Muang gold buddha in Ang Thong

Ayutthaya floating market

Any other places worth a visit, aside from all the ruins in Ayutthaya city?

Might be worth a try, it's not a visit more a trip.

One of the big hotels in BKK runs a boat ride into BKK from Ayutthaya comes complete with meals.  Not sure of times but I do know it goes both ways. Passes all the temples and the Kings royal boat place. Might be worth a look if you fancy it.

You could try Lopburi an hour north on the AH 1/32. That's of cause you don't like Monkeys. As that's what they are famed for.

In your two hours even Pattaya is available. Then again who in their right minds would want to go to Pattaya.

BKK has lots to see Suggest you look up Things to see in BKK.

Have a good trip hope you enjoy Ayutthaya

Yes, Bangsai is worth a visit if it's not too hot and not raining.

Some people get confused, many stop here 14.149604, 100.523376 at SACICT (The Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand) a huge building with stalls selling all manner of crafts, a lot of beautiful stuff at competitive prices, not cheap, competitive.

The "real" entrance is a bit further down the road 14.154577, 100.520669 less parking but it's rarely busy. This area is not free, send Wifey into the ticket office, it's supposed to be farang price but we've never paid anything other than Thai price in the many times we have visited. This area has a small zoo, aquarium and the craft workshops which may, or may not, be active, more shopping and a park area with examples of traditional wooden houses from around Thailand. Feed the fish in the lake, eat ice cream or Thai snacks, chill.

The great Khao Yai national park is about an hour away to the north.

Spectacular scenery, waterfalls and wildlife, plenty of other activities

in the area such as PB Valley vineyard etc.

Definitely give the floating market a miss, it is a cheap rip-off and as a

farang you will pay 200 baht entry fee Thais pay zilch.

Try this place :

Maha Rat, just off the 32 Highway going north from Ayutthaya ( before you get to Ang Thong ), you can see it from the Highway on your left.

Nice little market with some great eating places a very serene lake with the obligatory hungry fish and the old fella looking over you !!

A nice place to wander and spend an hour or two.

Some excellent egg custards and the best banana cake ( muffins) I’ve ever had at the first stall on your left as you enter the market.
