  • It's doable but I wouldn't recommend it - it would be much more enjoyable taking 2 days (each way). I did Phuket to Ranong and back again in one day about 10 years ago on a Yamaha Nouvo. That was abou

  • Sore backside and an incredibly boring ride. Cars get fast, really fast, after Ayutthaya.   It's 8 to 9 hours driving in a car, a scooter will average 20kph less, so 12 to 14 hours. Last sec

  • For less than the price of the gas you will have to buy you could take the train and have a much nicer view of the scenery and a much safer and relaxing time...     Read this thread too...

Hello mates. A great many exchange here I see.

I hear you all and like I said in the last post, found air tickets for a smidgen over THB1,600. Makes no sense to ride 10 hour+ each way. I would've lost billions in Bill Gates accounting for time. Ha ha.

Well, not that money was the issue anyway. However you count it, it's more expensive riding and driving than flying up and down this country. Maybe if you did the Thai thing but it's debatable.

Imagine the fuel mileage on this.

All of you who did it, I salute you ? and I hear you too: it's boring!

Since I mentioned it, well, my bucket list does include stuff like a bungee jump off the Sydney bridge. I'd bet that safer than my CM to BKK biking trip however.

Call it the inner somchai or whatever, it's one of the things I would like to do, if not now then when I'm properly retired, is to get a Maxi scooter. A Xmax or Forza or just go all the way with that BMW one and go touring, saddle bags and all.

I do like driving and riding, I regularly cover over 50,000km annually for work and leisure. I actually like the driving to a particular destination more than the destination itself.

But there's sense and sensibility. Yes, statistic don't lie and we all know those figures only account to those who passed on on the road itself. Count those who succumb later and it will be more horrifying.

Still, it's nice to chat with you all. My takeaway is that it's really not worth doing. There's the danger and there's the fact that it's boring unless you detour.

Cheers again, mates.

Have you seen “1000,000” ways

to die ?

It’s not a joke, think twice.

Good luck,

Good luck,

But in the end it only takes one slip in the bathtub or shower, have you stopped taking showers

I wear protective gear, sit down in the tub and have a life guard.

Yours neither

If you must do this ardeous journey then unless you have an iron arse the sensible thing to do is break the ordeal into two or three parts.  Good luck to you, your arse and your scooter.

I am currently travelling from Hua Hin to Chiang Mai on my Honda Forza 300cc.

Never in a million years would i do this on a 125cc.

I have broken the trip up over 3 days.

Day 1 was Hua Hin to Bridge over the River Kwai, was 212 kms, and around 4 hours with a lunch break.

Day 2, I have just done Kachaburi to Nakhon Sawan, 277kms and 5 hours, with a brekkie break.

Trying to keep to 80kph, but at times, over 100kph. and of course, pee breaks, food breaks to factor in.

This has been much more enjoyable due to scenic countryside

Day 3, tomorrow will be Nakhon Sawan to Lampang, the biggest leg, and a small ride on Day 4 to CM.

Traffic has not been a problem, but i have a bike powerful enough to keep me out of trouble as long as I keep my awareness high, like you have to in Thailand.

So, I would do it mate, but not on a 125cc, unless you are small, as it will kill your back, and split it up into a few days.

It is enjoyable, but I would recommend at least a PCX

Go up to Sukothai and pick up the 1248 to highway one very nice ride. Highway one can become a bit repiticious. 1248 to Thuen and then the 106 to Lamphun you can avoid the crazy mountain road north of Lamphang.

Iv'e done  Pattaya to Penang,  Pattaya  - Phuket,  Pattaya  - Mae Sai,  Pattaya -  Nong Khai   Pattaya - Samui,  Pattaya - Ubon, some I went solo, Most I didn't, Nong Khai to Pattaya straight off  was a blast.

But this was all done in the 90's, would I do it now with the huge increase in Traffic since those days,  maybe not and certainly not Solo.

Sounds like hell. This bucket list is questionable. What else is on your list? - I fear for you.

Catch an overnight bus from Bangkok to Surat.

The 106 has a nice section of twists and turns without the crazy drivers
