Chiang Rai: Rescuers make progress on day seven

Most people with even the slightest bit of experience, knowledge or good imagination knows that going these distances in these circumstances is dangerous, time consuming and exhausting.  IF any of the divers have never done this type of dive or rescue it is even more dangerous, time consuming and exhausting.

Is this a wake up call to the Thai authorities?  Maybe... IF things get over your head.  Pick up the phone and call the international community and ask for help.  The world is full of experts with the right training and equipment and they are interested in one thing.  Saving lives.
You can usually get people and equipment, door to door often within 24-36 hours unless they are blocked by politics or greed.
Saving face, greed and arrogance gets people killed and in this situation hours can be the difference.
These kids and coach deserve the best the world has to offer.   Any of those people directly involved in this rescue, especially those in the cave and in the water deserve the very best equipment, support, command and control.

Opinions, perceptions, reality???

I have my own, but I will wait and see what, if any, after action reports come out.  This is not the place or time for me to air out my thoughts about the country, the [lack] of leadership and the greed that might be taking place or any stage dancing and credit taking that will come.  When it does, that is the right time.

My thoughts are - food, temperature, darkness and air supply are probably not a deadly concern.  If they have not already drowned as a result of the flash flooding, there is a good chance they are alive.  Infection is a real concern and treatment inside the cave system will probably be necessary as taking them out the way the divers came in seems almost insanely impossible.

No one in their right mind wants anything less than to hear, found alive.

  • Prov gov wants everyone to see the same pic of the situation. he thanks the team who helps close the waterway at Doi Pha Mhee so no more water leading into the cave
  • SEALs are still at around the same spot. the placement process of oxygen tanks and rod line is going well. we place them for around 800m between the 3rd chamber and the junction so they’ll be enough for everyone
  • the diving team has been working for a very long time. water draining progress at the entrance of Sai Thong cave will be reported later
  •  the overall water level is decreasing at the rate of 1 cm/hr. using 9 water pumps at the entrance, 6 pumps at the 300m spot, and 9 pumps at the 1500 spot
  • will bring more pumps inside. the large water pumps really help us a lot
  • the director of DNP reported that we have to install a weir and tubes at the spot at Dung creek which has water from Doi Pha Mhee leading into the cave in order to diverge the waterway away from the tunnel
  • 2 weirs were made because there are two waterways. the first team connected 2 tubes, 300m long, and 100m more will be added
  • the villagers confirmed that Dung creek affects the water level so we’ll see the video and let the second director of DNP explain
  • another waterway will be diverged as well. we think there might be one more waterway at Dung creek as well. the villagers made 2 weirs last night and now they’re connecting tubes
  • if the tubes are all connected today, they will help diverge water a lot. we’ll explore more as well to see if there are more waterways
  • another drilling spot is already explored. we will place more machines which have been done 4 times already, 1 more left. if it can get on tonight, we can assemble and start working on the machine
  • water draining: outside and inside the cave inside: draining from the entrance, 2nd and 3rd chamber which use 25 water pump
  • this doesnt mean that the water level will always decrease since there’s always new water coming in
  • water draining at the nearest point of the cave drains out around 5000 litre. the spot at Sai Thong has a cave at the middle. the water it up to the head so we use backhoe to open the waterway and drill into the cave which really help draining water out
  • the spot where there’s a spring, we dig in which helps draining out water even more. thanks to the teams that come to help and the large water lumps, we are now draining water out at around 60k litre/hr
  • the water level, at first was at the head level, has now decreased to the knee length
  • ppl who arent involved will be kept out because the machines are heavy. we’ll break open the right wing of the cave tonight
  • about the question whether we can transport the children: after 10 days, the body wont release gastric juice anymore and uses fat instead. ppl normally can live up to 30 days. if children dont move much, their muscles might have a problem
  • so the doctor will dive in first to see if they can be moved. if not, they’ll be taken care of inside the cave first instead of immediately taken out
  • we havent found any signs yet. we’re still working
  • SEALs havent reached Pattaya Beach yet
  • The drilling spot isnt confirmed if it will help find the children because there’s a lot of distance inside the cave we wont confirm what we have to guess
  • SUMMARY OF THE PC 1 all 13 ppl have yet to be found 2 we havent reached Pattaya beach yet 3 we havent seen any signs like the rumors said 4 we plan to drill the cave from above but no confirmation if we’ll find them immediately

I haven't trawled through the 31 pages of comments but has anyone sought advice (or has it been offered) from the team that rescued the Chilean miners years ago?

Thank you very much for taking the time to post that.

Apples and pears unfortunately. Very little in common.

Honestly... not sure it would help.  We were talking about that at work the other day-- the problem is that they're two completely different situations.  Namely, they knew pretty much where the Chilean miners were and just couldn't get to them, if I'm remembering correctly, and they weren't dealing with all of the water.  Also, the miners were probably at least slightly equipped to deal with such a situation as surely it was known that it was a possibility in such a profession, whereas the kids were expecting no such thing and, I assume, had few supplies.  And, the miners were adults-- not one (young) adult with a bunch of kids.

There was some reference to the Chilian rescue somewhere in amongst all the doss, can't remember where - sorry - but *Katia summed it up pretty well.

Also, it was on solid ground with good roads, getting heavy equipment in was much easier.

Yes, agree but if the authorities have an idea they are at 'Pattaya Beach' wouldn't that be a starting point for drilling?

I just thought their experience may be helpful and hadn't heard mention of them to date in what seems like a very similar situation.

Praying for them all anyways.

I assume they will be trying to signal via noise that they are on their way? High pitched whistles etc? I haven't read anything regarding this but what a morale boost it would give the kids if they heard it.

Amazing, unbelievable, fantastic news!!  Can't wait for Kiwi Kiwi and the others who were saying they are all dead and wouldn't be in Pattaya Beach, the Thai rescue was pathetic etc etc.

Pathetic naysayers should feel ashamed and embarrassed.

WHAT AN AMAZING AMAZING SUCCESS!!!!!!!

Ditto. Too many negative thinkers gave up too soon. Logic indicated to me that success would eventually prevail. This is a win for Thailand and the world. Goes to show how countries working together can do more than those who isolate.

Rescuers found all 12 boys and their football coach alive inside the flooded Tham Luang Cave Monday night.

The 13 victims from a local football club, Mu Pa Academy Mae Sai, have been stranded inside the cave in Chiang Rai province because of flash floods since June 23.

Chiang Rai Governor Narongsak Osottanakorn confirmed at about 10pm on Monday that the victims had been found.

He also made clear that rescue operations would continue non-stop until the victims were safely transferred out of the cave and to hospitals.

As of press time, doctors with high diving skills are on their way to the spot where the victims had stayed. Checkups are needed to determine whether the football’s team members can be moved out of the dark cave immediately. If not, they will receive first aids and food inside the cave first.

Victim transportation plans have already drawn up.

Good news ...Yes...

Everyone would love to see them do a lap of honour before the World Cup Final on the 15th in Moscow. Make it happen FIFA.
