I am on a 1 year visa based on retirement. Can anyone please recommend at which Bank and location where I can open an account? Thank you.

I opened one in the Bangkok Bank without a problem

I seem to recall they appreciated me having a Tabien Baan (Yellow book) as proof of address.

Went to Central. Bangkok Bank wanted around 900 baht for some insurance etc. Scb refused point blank, even though I have an account in Jomtien. Succeeded with Krungsri.

yellow bank has the best non fixed savings rates..1.3%..paid monthly..no taxes.  CIMB is good, too, but you need a million to get a good rate.  Make sure they put you in the right account.

Are you talking about the Bank of Ayudhya?

https://www.krungsri.com/bank/en/home.html ?

The best interest I see there is 1.5% pa.

yes, but the account t is regular savings..MEE TA DEE (sic)..,likely 1.3%...,with 100,000.....,not a fixed, no withholdings....about triple what BBL  pays on passbook savings..  They have been known to play dumb and put people in a low paying one, so you need to press.
