Well, that was a fairly frank discussion of what was possible and what was a waste of time. Good job that experienced people were listened to, rather than pander to fantasy and PR gimmicks. It is real

Without Vern there would be no boys alive today. I do not agree in his comment about Musk, but don't make it bigger than it is .

Vern is a hero and will always be in the eyes of Thailand,

Who apointed Rick Stanton as co-leader. the only person I can find giving him that position is Musk.

It may be that some of his statements he made to Musk were not those he was permitted to make as there were communication restrictions strictly placed by the rescue leaders.

Ah. I remember when the engineers were regarded as basically scum in my country. I hear echoes of that time in Musk haters yells. The cause seems to be fear of the unknown future.

Since then engineers struck back though and became rich as the world moved from peasantry to high-tech. And became rich. Ha!  Suck on that, dinosaurs! ?

We did have struggle with engineers in some areas, but then the people who used to do the ground work engeeners themselves, and knew how to do it in the real world ?

It have been many wrongs before getting it right from the drawing board to actually make it happend and make it good.

There you go,when I was calling him a fraud and 21st century delorean I got some crap of some of the other members, now he's been exposed.i said he was only going to get in the way of an operation that had nothing he could help with.

There does seem to a few Muskite Fanboys on here - can't believe anyone fell for his publicity stunt.

When asked his thoughts on Elon Musk’s submarine Mr Unsworth replied: “He can stick his submarine where it hurts”.

“He [Elon Musk] had absolutely no concept of what the cave passage was like.

Thanks, someone says the truth about that "submarine. None right-thinking peoples believed that this piece of shit can help anyone there, can be interesting to know who all is involved in that propaganda joke.

Musk was too busy figuring out how get some PR out of this situation, he probably didn't think of the geometry of the cave or how a young (or old) person might panic in a little sub like that. I found his input very distasteful.

A nasty flame cartoon has been removed along with an ill informed  and incorrect troll post.

Well people have insightfull i formations and opinions! Where do you all get this stuff from? False news? The world is still flat as a panecake! Nothing more to see, hear or learn!

As i remember Musk made 2 solutions. 1 was a rigid sub and the other flexible like this, for this situation the flexible version was favoured.spacex-engineers-rescue-pod-thailand-6.jpeg.fa2b0a0691ac8f6040c942dfa6c78ba3.jpeg&key=8e5306d6eac046dd7bff139345ba0fb441638f0b06b9e1008ea9ea2ab10119e7

Elon Musk = world's greatest braggart!

Musk increased the chances of survival of the boys.

He don't need no free publicity.

Do you actually think this thing when inflated is flexible enough to go around corners? Get real! Also, the issue of exhausting CO2 hasn't been brought up. A B.I.B.S. (built-in breathing system) would be needed. The ballast system would still be a issue not to mention the cave areas where climbing is required. Buoyancy changes as air is used. strapping on air tanks violates the required envelope. This is just the short list of problems with this system. The video showed a young man popping out successfully. How long had he been in there? The whole concept is B.S. and still so many of you still cling to your love of this PR stunt to save face.

The more solutions available, the greater the chance of success. It was designed on the limited info he had, when the conditions became known, it turned out to be not suitable.

That's ok, 'pollygee accepted.

Appears to me some posters here have encountered previous motivation to dislike Elon Musk, subsequently in this particular instance where he genuinely tried to assist, they are unfortunately allowing their ingrained animosity to cloud their judgement.

Anybody with an operating brain should be able to follow events and understand why the alternatives to the boys swimming out were no longer required!!

Lol i dont know if it would have worked it was never tested but at the time it was the only solution but think it definetly needed some development. Now please stop the insults and name calling its so childish.

It is really sad that the genuine heroes of the story have played their role down, while some others will use a life or death tragedy for promotion, with no idea of what was even halfway feasible. Thank You, Vern, for setting things straight.

Plus it seems to me that the good governor who was demoted and moved supposedly for poor performance was actually in there all the time keeping discussions going, listening and planning and at the right timing a well planned quite big operation with massive resources in place started and all saved.

Manners are important to all of us even those that rescue kids. Vern should have taken the high road but no one is perfect and he proved that with his words and his mouth. Totally unnecessary and he may regret his harsh words.  Telling someone to stick it is not a good example for those 13 kids that were rescued or any kid on the planet and he has a very wide audience listening now. Too bad he did not use the interview opportunity to better the world rather than attack someone who tried to help. Disappointed but all of us make mistakes even those we label heroes.

So maybe his sub would've been useless but give Musk credit for trying. He's not so dumb as to try to insert himself into a life and death crisis only for the PR.

He is and he did, before you design something you will ask the requirements. which he obviously didn't bother to do.

If it had got to testing stage in the real situation it would either pass or fail. He offered it, did not DEMAND it be used. & he also offered his flexible one which may well have worked, following testing & debugging.

That "piece of shit" will keep the kid protected from any debris, or damage to the mask, that will be fatal under water. With the kid totally sedated and in a safe enclosed "space", a flexible submarine will be a safer way to "transport" anybody  under water than an open strecher. Just wait...a rubber "submarine" is coming in the future. Nothing is made "perfect" on the first try..... even an electric car. Musk's Tesla was the first... and not his last one.

Thanks God, nothing bad happened.... but to say that Musk intention was just PR is unfair and stupid, like this diver's comment.

Are you referring to the flexible one that is not flexible when inflated and bobbing around on the surface. Have you personally designed and built a submarine?
