The natural longshore drift in conjunction with that headland just doesn't allow it. The only way they will get sand to stick is build groynes. Stop using logic on this subject. It spoils a good thread and the Thai authorities might read it and get ideas..... before going to the pub for thinking too much. 1 2

Any creditable engineer involved in the restoration of a beach would have know about the preparation so this wouldn't have happened.Of course when you can obtain your credentials through hook or crook this is what you get. 3
hotchilli Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 400 million baht... that's a very expensive hole in the foot!!! or should I say hole on the beach? 1

It will just fade away and become an old resort city. that lost its attraction. Pattaya has already lost its attraction for many people. And I do not refer to the beach. 3
digbeth Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 I heard that they want to put in a pipe from the road out to sea for storm water drain to stop exactly this kind of run off erosion, but the big hotel next to that corner blocked it, as any pipe that spew murky water, (which although is not sewage) in the water is bound to look bad/worse that what it already is
Popular Post mok199 Posted August 7, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 7, 2018 sadly this attempt may be the last,as now the beach is linned with sand bags that are buried under 12inches of sand,,after the first rain these will be exposed ,but this renewal was only to accommodate the power boats(the tour groups own that run the tours to and from the island and parasial), to keep them a distance from the beach chairs ....pattaya beach is nothing more than a boat launch...it died 5 years ago when the Chinese arrived and this brain fart of a plan is just the death blow..but the good news is ''we have the most honest taxi drivers in the world 4
Sir Dude Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 The beach from the Baltic coast in Poland looks like a ghastly experience....not my style at all. As for Pattaya and the beach replenishment project, did they even consult a coastal environment expert before launching off into this project as looks like a complete screw-up? Sorry, rhetorical question...hmmm. 1

chama Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 An engineering feat to be sure! Oh...I intended to say folly. I guess covering up all of the trash didn't work. Maybe pushing the sand into the sea and covering up some of the sewage will help?
Popular Post digbeth Posted August 7, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 7, 2018 This is a beach in Rayong, so somewhere in Thailand there's someone who knows what a groynes is and does 2 1
Popular Post fakename Posted August 7, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 7, 2018 This problem is so easy to solve, and im sure they are already planing. Just buy 400m baht of sand. That will keep everyone happy and build a few more nice homes, and a few more cars. 1 2

Now that he is back out of jail and has his sons working in the Green's "government" all is back to normal in the eastern seaboard. 1

Groynes are designed to stop erosion by longshore drift. 1
Popular Post Thian Posted August 7, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 7, 2018 Who builds an elevated beach on sandbags???? And that for 400 million baht! Was it too hard to order a load of rocks or even concrete blocks as foundation? Just have a look at Sentosa Island Singapore, that's how you build beaches... 5 1

manhood Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Any kind of "project" in Thailand done, controlled or organized by governmental agencies is just to be done to fill up private pockets!!!!!! 1
essox essox Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 complete waste of time and BIG money......even King Canute could NOT stop the tide.....and no one will ever do so !!!
Popular Post Bangkok Barry Posted August 8, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2018 What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Of course, it might be entirely intentional, as I'm sure money is to be made each time the sand is replaced. Like the new roads that are laid and have to be re-tarmacked a few weeks later. and then again a few weeks after that. Surely Thais couldn't be so stupid as to not know how to do these jobs properly. Oh, wait..... ? 3
overherebc Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Spread a rumour that the higher bits left are covering piles of shrimp in bags. Afer half an hour all the high bits will have been shoved into the low bits. Level sand done for free. ?
ChrisY1 Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 River sand for beaches......what a waste! It's a shame the engineering skills here are very poor......but someone made a lot of money...now a new budget for sand replacement on the cards! 1

Surely Mr P in his all encompassing busy bee sort- out-every-little-problem of this country could check up on just a weansy peansy bit of corruption here. I mean, deck chairs seemed easy enough.... 1
