"Hollywood" coming to Hua Hin as skywalk proposed

A municipality meeting organised by the Hua Hin mayor on Monday discussed ideas to raise the profile of the town as a tourism destination. 

 

One of the plans is to create a tower and walkway with 360 degree views on Hin Lek Fai hill.

 

This will be adorned with a "Hollywood" style sign screaming "HUA HIN" in huge letters that can be seen for miles around. 

 

The project is called "Hua Hin Sky Walk and Tower"

 

Many buzzwords were bandied around like confetti at the meeting chaired by mayor Noppaporn Wuthikun, as reported by Talk News Online. 

 

These included making Hua Hin a "Smart City" and lots of references to "Thailand 4.0".

 

The local authority also want to improve safety for visitors by installing better CCTV coverage.

I can hardly contain myself.  Its a new era of big signs and bigger talk.  Wow....

Better use of the money would be to improve all the pavements and hanging cables in the centre of Hua Hin.  The image at the moment is certainly not one of a thriving, attractive, tourist town. Making the pavements safe to walk on without the possibility of breaking an ankle or of being strangled or electrocuted would be a good start.

 

Of course, grand new schemes will always appear more attractive to the officials in charge than simple maintenance.  The centre of town could be improved substantially, I believe, by spending far less money than proposed on the new project, although perhaps both would be nice.

Cleaning up the beach shore line would help & cleaner, smoother sidewalks would be better than a sign that will gradually fall apart due to no maintenance.

We need sidewalks like PTY, without the hustlers and zombie expats.

 

Everyone is just excited by the Holiday Inn SkyBar. I suspect the excitement will pass. However, any excuse to upgrade 3218 is most welcome. Current 4 lanes needs to become six lanes with concrete dividers.

Oh more signs! Hua Hin already suffers from endless sign pollution. Permanent, “temporary” (LaCasita still has signs posted everywhere for their now demolished sales office), moving on trucks... the sign congestion is overwhelming. The sheer volume has led to bigger and more signs being the norm (the new monster sign on top of City Hall shows the leaders mindset). You can hardly walk on sidewalks in Hua Hin without being pushed into traffic lanes by condo and commercial signs mounted across the way.

Perhaps considering restoring what makes Hua Hin so charming and appealing instead of more signs would increase tourism. 

Work on cleaning up the piles of trash along the sidewalks and repairing them, removing dangerous obstacles and wires, removing half demolished structures like the ones near the Intercontinental, embrace the nostalgic old town culture along the downtown waterfront (currently being evicted and demolished). Reclaim the charm and allure of a clean and safe beach town. The very concepts which have made Hua Hin attractive to Kings, residents and tourists.

Nice, but first maybe tackle safer roads with safe lanes for bikes or scooters and perhaps more efficient pedestrian crossings all over the town...and get in more public buses, with properly indicated bus stops that would remain clear to find and serve all areas of Hua Hin, upto Black Mountain.......then perhaps, one may consider Huallywood Hin.

 

And above all, keep HHin clean...don't let it become another dump, cramped, unsafe, or sleezy adult playground city with prostitues all over, crime, criminal farangs, drugs and corrupt cops/immigration all over...... like some other costal towns that I will not mention !!
