How long before the expiry date is one permitted to renew??

For 5yr (standard) it's 90 days before expiry.

Quite unusual to do it before expiry (if no specific reason).

Most will do it at least a day after expiry (=your birthday) to win one more year of validity. Up to one year after expiry with extra test/effort.

The process was not possible since about a month.

Queues reopened from May 7:

That was a bit short.

Had to do a simple colour test, and then went to listen/view a lecture and video all in Thai.

Not surprising it's all in Thai ;)

In the past, I've needed a medical cert to renew a 5 year but last year it wasn't needed in Khon Kaen. They said new regulations for Thai and foreigners.

Thanks guys. I have to leave for work occasionally hence no guarantee of being possible on the expiry date.

Back in the day they wouldn't allow you to renew before the expiry day .... ridiculous!!!!

Sorry, not my day. Too hot.

WITHOUT extra test/effort!

So you have one year after expiry.

More than one year: theory test.

More than three years: start all over.

Remember, if you have an accident on the way to renew your license(after expiration) your insurance in invalid.

True. Not a bad idea to have someone drive you or use some other form of transport.

Although the effect of the renewal shutdown since April should let you be safe.

They wrote until 15 days after lifting of state of emergency or further announcement (as now published).

And this is still on the website:
