Toyota C-HR voted Thailand’s Car of the Year

The Toyota C-HR has won the “Thailand Car of the Year 2018” crown.

 

The C-HR earned 382 points, followed by the Mazda CX-5 with 307 points, the Suzuki Swift (260 points), the Mitsubishi Xpander (141), the MG ZS (136) and the Nissan Terra (130).

 

“The criteria included design, handling, comfort, performance, safety, equipment level, technology, pricing and environmental friendliness,” said Bhuvanath Paochinda, president of the Thai Automotive Journalists Association.

 

A total of 12 new models entered the competition, with six making the cut for the final round.

 

Fifty-four automotive journalists took part in the final round, which was held at the Suvarnabhumi Motorsport Park on November 16.

 

Toyota Motor Thailand PR director Preecha Pothi received the award for the C-HR.

The criteria included design...hmmmmmm....too much of a spaceship if you'd ask me.

That’s one car with no practicality.. it’s cramped inside and everything is wrong inside..

I was on a ferry to Koh Lanta when I saw one if the first examples of this car and fell in love with it to the extent I videod while walking around it to the amusement of it’s owner. I’ve not been in the car but will Ben checking it out. I’d love one in Oz but the swines in Govt don’t support Hybrids so Toyota doing bring in that version which is the one is want if i get one. It’s so futuristic in it’s design, externally at least. I think the windging on tV - normally about Thai life has now extended to car choices. Anyways as stated above seems the najority wins out!

A very ugly spaceship that is.

Japanese car design has finally reached it's end of the line.

Last year was the Mazda CX-3. So that's two in a row for compact SUV's.

 

I like the hybrid. My friend get's about 1,000 kms from the same amount of baht. It is not a fast car however, but quite nimble considering the extra weight of the batteries. Toyota interiors are almost always bland, and this is no exception. The exterior has grown on me, but the rear light set up is stolen directly from a Honda Civic.

 

Ranking the compact SUV's in Thailand:

HR-V for large groups and small families. The new RS actually looks quite nice too.

CX-3 for interior, speed, handling, and long trips... but only if there is 2 of you. Not a family vehicle.

CH-R for scooting around town, the eco conscious, and those who seek the Toyota brand.

Pick-ups are the premium vehicle in Thailand....the sales figures will confirm.

Toyota designers must have been having a really bad hair day with this piece....!

Next year will be Misubishi' turn!

I saw one of these a few days back next to us on the highway in Phuket.

The styling certainly makes an impression, I even got the wifey to look at something other than lucky number plates and pass judgement. (She prefers her Vios)

I was quite intrigued by the rear door handle placement up near the roof.

I would n't call anything with leaf springs a premium vehicle but agreed they do sell well.

They said the same about the MR2, Celica and Supra all considered quirky at the time.

The same designers use to work for Nissan but they all got fired for making another freak... Juke.

Lucky they got the award this year before they all start rattling to bits as most of this manufacturers products do
