Black-tip reef sharks sighted near Phi-Phi island beaches

A school of black-tip reef sharks has been sighted swimming in knee-deep water around the beaches of Phi-Phi islands, off the southern province of Krabi, causing excitement among conservationists.

 

Even Dr Thorn Thamrongnavasawat, a well-known marine scientist attached to the fishery faculty of Kasetsart University, admitted he was astonished by the sighting of the sharks.

 

“Believe it or not this is Thai sea and the Phi-Phi island.  Four years ago, there was no hope.

Let the Chinese know that the island's waters are full of ravenous Black Tip Reef sharks preying on the legs and kneecaps of waders and snorkelers alike.
Then they'll never be back.  Then the government will need to put up shark nets to reassure the Chinese tourists.  Then the shark nets decimate the shark population.  Yeah!

I kite boarded on that back beech about 8 years ago and saw a black tip shark. it took an interest in my French mate who had his kite in the drink and was having trouble re launching it.
