23k for a 310cc bike that costs 210k? Either they are ripping people off or it's a mistake and they used some bigger BMW bike for that quote.

For comparison: When I bought my KTM Duke 390 this year KTM included a first class insurance for 11,900B incl. VAT.

I have 3 Ducati's and a PCX.

Ducati service is shocking, they're basically only interested in sales, like so many other things here, after sales is non existent. I know one of the girls quiet well who looks after me, only ever use the authorised dealer in BKK not these satellite franchises in KK / Pattaya / CM / Korat etc.

They can just about stumble through a service, nothing else and yes the lead times on spares are outrageuous BUT that's what you have to put up with for driving a premium bike in this country,

PCX never fails ( but i feel like a sheep on it ).

You guys who buy the BMWs and Ducatis with the known history of shiite service...

papa don't get it.

The service is slowly ( very slowly) improving and so is the reliability of the machines compared to the past.

Gotta plan for success.....

Cleaned disgusting state of the engine myself.
To date after one month from purchase.
We still have apsolutely zero in writing from Motorrad Thailand.
Seems retailing dealer, Barcelona CNX ,has no input/interest!
Supposed to be 3yrs wty , 4 yrs road side assist.
Oh and a BMW T shirt!
Waiting, waiting!
Cheers.

I guess after a month or two you will receive a t-shirt - 3 sizes to small.

And then you are obviously supposed to be happy because everything was solved.

Enjoy the ride!

Guys I appreciate your comments.

My big concern is , the quality of the repair work will totally depend on the skill of the mechanic doing the job!

Ie , will surfaces be totally cleaned, will head bolts be torqued to manufacturers specs, will new hose clips be used to replace factory crimped ones etc etc!

At this time, until the top end is stripped a cracked head/ porous head can not be ruled out!

We are very frustrated that the manager Barcelona BMW ignores our emails.
No further comment from Motorrad BMW Bangkok.

It seems no one seems to give a stuff regarding customer service.

Is this a good way to conduct business, and get repeat custom, I think not!

To be fair, word of mouth has it, that the dealership will give an extended warranty on the work.

Again , this is a truly awesome bike for a vertically challenged person.

However we simply do not expect to be treated like this, by a supposedly premium brand like BMW.

I don't know any country that would give a replacement vehicle for this reason. Motor vehicles seem to be the exception to the refund/replacement rule, usless the fault is serious and failure continues.

Get it fixed and see how it goes, my guess is a loose bolt or two, maybe a faulty air tool/supply on the production line, or similar.

Don't worry I know planty of people who have had bigger troubles from BMWs... and Mercs...Hondas, Toyotas, etc....production techiniques are pretty universal these days....so its only a badge.

You want statistics, USA latest, more than half of BMWs breakdown in the first 4 years?

You want reliabilty don't buy a Beama...Yamaha are number 1.

Exactly, so production is not the same for all and it's not just a badge...

...er how does that work? Someone has to be the best it happens to be Yamaha at present. Since everyone buys this Beama for the badge (what else) and they are not getting reliability, they are only getting a badge.

Recently I have had two new dirt bikes, the Lifan 200 had an agricultural gearbox, the Honda 250 an agricultural engine. Neither broke down or had to go back..same same. The Lifan was a 1/3rd the price, so I paid for a badge.

And to you

The 235000 was a receipt, not a quote!

Getting more and more like, would you buy a car from this man!

Well the amazing Barcelona BMW Barcelona / Motorrad circus continues!

Now 7 weeks after purchase.
No sign of warranty, insurance , or roadside assist papers.

Oh they did send BMW T shirt, ordered XL, idiots sent S, and BMW key ring that immediately fell apart.

These guys a total joke.

But the bike is truly amazing!

I feel we're talking past each other. I thought you said production techniques are the same for all (and hence should have same quality more or less) and my point was that they are not the same at all, hence why you have pretty big quality differences between the brands. But you agree on that so I'm a bit confused.

Still nothing from BMW Motorrad Thailand? Maybe you got the wrong contact? Have you tried BMW Germany? Try sending a registered mail so they can't claim they never heard from you.

PS: make at least sure that you got the insurance company's or road side assist number even if you don't have the paperwork yet.

You can reach BMW Motorrad Customer Service Germany in Munich by phone via +4989 1250 16200 from 8:00 to 17:00 German time. Maybe you'll be able to reach someone who speaks english. Otherwise fill out the form at https://www.bmw-motorrad.de/de/public-pool/content-pool/contact.html

Anrede: choose Herr (Mr)

Vorname: first name

Nachname: surname

Strasse und Hausnummer: Street and House number

Postleitzahl Stadt: zipcode and town

Land: country

Then the big box is your question/complaint.

If you want to write a letter, then send it by registered mail to "BMW Motorrad Direct 80788 München".

Should also first try the contact form at https://www.bmw-motorrad.co.th/th/service/contact-us.html

Update guys.
Face to face meet with Barcelona BMW this morning.
Suddenly the overdue insurance certificate is produced.
Looks good cover, included with bike at no cost.
100k Baht medical for 2 people.
20k Baht excess though!
Cost was 22000 baht!

Also 2 nice silicone key fobs.

Now msg from Motorrad Thailand, offering apologies, assuring us that
warranty ,and road assist for 4 years ,will be appearing very soon!
5 year warranty on the repairs carried out, plus 3 year warranty on the bike.

Dare I say we are getting there.
Cheers.

What does that mean?

If your repaired engine fails in 4.5 years do you get a replacement on warranty?

Or do they only give you a new gasket if it fails again within 5 years?

I assume if, which is highly unlikely, the head gasket fails again, they will replace it again.

However now 550 kms down the track, touch wood, all fine!

Good!

So except from this problem, which is hopefully something of the past, how do you like your new bike?

Ok I have had a serious variety of bikes, over the years.

Being vertically challenged has always been an issue!

Also dealing with weight!

I absolutely love this bike!
Comfortable, enough grunt for mountain roads around CNX for sure!

Handling is amazing, just loves corners, very planted.
Good brakes, plus not a bad pad for a Thai co pilot!

Previous bike was an MT07, this has on less grunt, but way more fun.

I would buy anouther 310R in a heartbeat!

The fit and finish of the bike is outstanding.

The only thing built to a price, is the non adjustable levers.

Now Barcelona have a red one, looks stunning!

Cheers.

That is great news. Enjoy!

Interesting that you mentioned the MT07. I have a KTM Duke 390 and I saw the MT07 next to me at a junction. And I thought: That bike is about the same size as mine, maybe I should have bought a MT07. But I didn't check any further because my bike is new and I won't buy a new one anytime soon. It's good, at least for me, that in your experience the MT07 is not that great.

Read my lips people!

The MT 07 is a fantastic bike.
BUT for a 72 yr old shortarse, it was getting a challenge to move around, and be like a ballet dancer!
Fairly high weight and higher seat height, compared with 320R.

BMW 320R seat height 20 mm less, weight 24kgs lighter.

I rest my case.
Cheers.
