alfieconn Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 I see Kompany was very gracious in defeat with this comment about Spurs " arguably if deserved or not" no wonder the neutrals will be happy at the result, anyway do you think Pep will have to spend another couple of hundred million to get a team that can win a CL ? or do you just think that your destined not to win the CL, i mean after all your history in Europe isn't great is it ?

Not sure it would of made a difference if he had but it does question why it wasn’t shown. The best replay that shows the ball hitting Llorente's arm, wasn't even shown to the referee. #MCITOT #UCL https://t.co/f4RlQDR6lf VAR helps but sometimes doesn't always make it any easier for the ref. I actually felt a bit sorry for the ref trying to work out this decision pitch side with the eyes of the world on him - big pressure - based on the replays he was shown, i think he made the right decision. Had he seen this view though, what decision would he have given (over to you armchair refs)?

If ball to hand is not considered hand ball then the goal should stand cos Llorente didn't guide the ball on to his thigh deliberately and his arm was tucked in to his body. It hit his arm then bounced off his thigh in to the net without his deliberation. If he did an Henry (Hand of Frog) where he controls the ball with his hand then kicks it, it should be disallowed. I hope that makes you feel a little better BB. ???? 1

Going by the directive UEFA had supposedly given everyone they were not going to allow any accidental handball goals to stand where he ball has hit a players hand, whether they were deliberate or not. Demot Gallagher said of the change “ it will be significant as we will no longer see a goal scored hitting the arm. 80% of handballs referees give are not deliberate, but because a player gains a material advantage. Taking the word deliberate out will eradicate that. “ It has already clearly caused controversy prior to this incident. For this reason the commentators and pundits on the radio were convinced it would get overturned on that viewing. Clearly the ref never saw that angle or would of had to disallow it?

I was watching bt and their 'on call' ref' said on watching the replay and he would have seen the angle your talkun about that it was a goal.

Mark Halsey said handball no goal, but shall we move on on the handball, the ref did the best he could with the VAR he was shown, if it was handball it was marginal. 1

Bredbury Blue Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 Nice gesture from our players. City have confirmed that the players will now pay for the coaches travelling from Manchester to north London next month (for the FA Cup Final vs Watford) as a way of saying thank you to the supporters. “The support from our fans throughout the season has been nothing short of incredible,” Kompany said, as per the club’s press release. “Travelling to so many games in league and cup competitions, both home and away, is not easy to do and is something that every player in our squad values and appreciates..."
Bredbury Blue Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 Thought we played well t'other night. At 1v2 down it would have been easy to crumble but they picked themselves up and went again. What was particularly pleasing was KdB's performance. After his injuries he'd looked poor in his comeback games and i was beginning to wonder if he'd ever get back to the pre-injury levels or whether he'd join the sad list of King Colin, Paul Lake and Michael Johnson who were the business but never recovered from bad injuries. With Silva's 2019 demise in form we really needed KdB back. Sad for me to say it as a big fan, but i wouldn't be starting Silva currently but better to bring him on as a potential gamechanger.

According to ex ref Peter Walton the UEFA Directive your referring to doesn't come in to effect until the 1st June 2019. So that means accidental hand ball is not a foul at this moment. 2
balo Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 Good game City, it was entertaining to watch . No VAR in the PL so it's all your's.
BangrakBob Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 To lose in such devastating fashion, the trophy that the owners, Pep and players were craving has alluded them again in spectacular fashion...Will they be able to pick themselves up tomorrow? To face the same team and fans again 3 days later must be a mental challenge.

They will need that support more than ever tomorrow. 3

Well Utd will have something to say about it and a derby match is always unpredictable. Its going to be very tough to get a result there tomorrow with our ever growing injury list but expect us to give it our best shot for sure....we need three points as badly as they do.

We lost the tie, but if we'd lost the game then it would be very mentally challenging. Didn't get your point though on spurs "fans". Believe the game has been sold out for months (was trying for a while to get tickets). I reckon we'll go pretty much the same as Wednesday with a few fresh legs coming in. Cardiff had a good win vs main relegation contender Brighton midweek so they'll be in good spirits for the scousers visit.

Sissoko was injured with a groin strain mid through the first half the only fit CM we have atm is Wanyama. Dier & Winks are still unavailable. I agree with Ronnie, can't see us fielding a strong enough side to get anything tomorrow, especially with having another game to consider next Tuesday. 2

I don't know how you can actually believe that winning the match makes this next match not a mental challenge. They got knocked out of the CL and in a horrific way, that is the mental challenge to overcome. The point wasn't about fans, it was about the exact same scenario as a whole. Ironically the Cardiff win has given Cardiff a free hit against us. Don't be surprised if they rest players.
