Mahrez at no.10. He wasn't even City's 10th best player!!!

Keep up.... there was a little competition called the African Cup of Nations. Algeria won it with Mahrez as one of their star players.

That team had 40 million Algerians supporting it. Not just a few people from Stockport.

So you all think Mahrez was worthy of his position. Amazing. When he nails down a starting position AND PLAYS for 90 minutes i might agree with you.

In the grand scheme of things Algeria are far more important than City.

^Apparently so as they must overlook Mahrez's City career.

Here's how they rank the nominees selected by France Football’s editorial team

The main criteria the jury uses to rank the players are as follows:

1. Individual and collective performances (winners) during the year.
2. Player class (talent and fair play).
3. Player’s career.

Sorry but that's <deleted>.

Bernardo was City's player of the season and winner of 2019 UEFA Nations League Final (didn't he win the tournaments best player).

Anybody who watches City and world football knows Bernardo was vastly superior to Mahrez in the past year so why you trying to defend him?

Bernado better than Mane / Mane better than Bernardo comes down to opinion / personal preference (similar to Messi or Ronaldo...I'd go with Messi everytime).

You're missing the point. Each country's journo gets one vote.....and there are a lot of African countries compared to one Portugal and one England. Successful African players will always get decent amounts as each country's journalist gives 5/4/3/2/1 points.

And just to confirm things, despite their UEFA success, the Portuguese guy gave Mane more points than Bernado (4 to 1).????

BTW am pleased you can finally spell UEFA correctly. It's taken a long time for that one to sink in????

As i was shocked to see Mane rated higher than Bernardo over the past year ????

Mane won the Golden Boot in the League, The Champions League and got to the AFNC final so I guess that trumps a league title.

In his little world Stockport and the Premier League are the only things that matter.

Nah. We're worth far more than Algeria

Algeria mean more to more people. So in that respect, they are worth more.

Seems I'm not the only one that thinks Mahrez's ranking is a joke. Check out the scouse website. Can't believe you lot defending Mahrez on this, contrary bastards.

I think you'll find that's across more than one platform, so they are not unique people as many can be signed up to more than one.

Anyway, clicking for a social media follow hardly means an emotional investment in the team.

Where was I defending Mahrez? I merely gave an explanation of why he achieved a high ranking. Would never make my top ten....but I'm not an african journo.????

I didn't see that coming!

Absolutely brilliant tonight, superb.

Rodri 11/10 (and best goal). Everybody back to their decent level.

All 4 goals were very good. Should have scored more.

VERY VERY happy with that

...and neither does being a national mean you have an interest in football or the national  football  team. Using my office as an example i reckon there's a handful out of +30 males who follow football.

Now now stop being so sensitive, i was lumping you in with Rickyboy not just you specifically.

^ In other words you were talking out of your backside.???? You quoted my post and compared what I said to what other scousers were saying. That appears pretty specific to me.

I take it you've never been to North Africa.

Not at all!

Go back to the start of this little golden ball/Mahrez thread and you will find that YOU and Rickyboy have been disagreeing with my comments on Mahrez ranking being indicative of the load of <deleted> known as the ballon d'or. Therefore my post below WAS spot on:

Actually i have; toured morocco in 1999. Also toured Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe in 1987. You?

Ah... Zimbabwe and Zambia.. the heartland of North Africa.

Algerians are completely bonkers about football. I would say probably 30 out of 30 males would like football. And when a country reaches the final of a major tournament it is a national event.

Ah you missed the reference to Morocco.

So you've not been to Africa then.

Yup I've been to North Africa. Also had an Algerian friend so I know how important football is in that country historically.

What brought you to Zambia anyway?

I like visiting new places which is how i ended up being an expat for 30 years.

Zambia when i went - may have changed - was dirt poor with barely anything for sale in upcountry stores.

Any photos to share? What did you do there?
