One of a few reasons I have always had a soft spot for Spurs is the ability of their fans to keep their humour and not take themselves so seriously

You surely don't mean the ones on this forum the past decade do you.

A post to interrupt the inter-rivalry banter and so on.......    I have been a Man United supporter since 1956 or thereabouts and have never wavered in my support for them, apart from going

For a ManU fan to say City are not your biggest rivals shows lack of historical knowledge of your and our main rivals throughout history (i.e. each other).

City supposedly being 3rd presumably means behind Liverpool and Leeds (?); the Leeds rivalry only started in the 70s but due to your age you might not know that.

Mentioned it to you before, buy Dr. Gary James' brilliant book on Manchester football (decade-by-decade history of City, ManU and all the other clubs in the area).

Sorry I am not taking into account pre-1970s BB, wonder why that is ????

We've been through this and I think the Liverpool lads had a similar attitude to Everton that we have to you... of course with United and City now that is more intense. But you are not our biggest rivals. End of.

And the pre-Football City Group supporters of City were also very good at laughing at themselves if you remember... they didn't take themselves quite so seriously

I would love to know how old you are Rick?

If we follow your logic , I guess Liverpool are now our main rival.

Although the derby is always the one game that the fans want to win more than any other in a season, it always was a different kind of rivalry with City. I can remember going to a Maine Road derby back in the early seventies and seeing a number of fans wearing City and United scarves tied together. Rarely saw any trouble at derbys. The players too socialised off the pitch with some of them forming lifelong friendships. No hate between the 2 clubs. The rivalry with Leeds was totally different at that time. Hatred both on and off the pitch. There were some horrendous battles between both the fans and players on the pitch.

The rivalry with Liverpool was somewhere between the 2 with a quiet respect for some great sides between the clubs. Arsenal and Chelsea (always my pet hate since the 70s) not so much.

I remember where you mentioned you are from, but don't recall you mentioning your age. I asked as your views remind me of my son's.

Definitely was trouble in the Kippax and around the ground during the 70s: remember that that was the era of bootboys and ManUs were the most notorious. I remember on several occasions it kicking off near innocent bystander me.

Some players were friends (Best n Summerbee being the most famous) just as they are now (Degea is Aguero's best mate). Not sure local rivalries affect players unless they are locally born.

Can't comment on any hate between the clubs back then though I suspect relationships were better in the past (City having financially helped ManU survive pre-WW1 when they were close to bankruptcy and famously during WW2 with City sharing Maine Road after Uwe Rosler's dad bombed Old Trafford).

I remember a derby at Maine Road when darts were thrown at us. Terrible decade that was

Was probably Chip Butty and his firm

Bert was a POW. Played for St Helens (footy not rugby) before City signed him.

Nah, Bert's dad would have been too old. Definitely Uwe's grandad. Here's proof

That's photoshopped my friend (he didn't really wear that t shirt)

lLoge tht mrboj and I'll paraphrase carmine on Man Yoo yesterday "Just mark Fernandes out of the game and you win easy"

Not quite imho...Cavani looks the part too but that defence....dear oh dear....Wanton Bissaka and Harry Jailbird...£120m???

Pogba hahaha loving the continuing soap opera post Ferguson.

Maguire is your main problem in defense, get rid of him Ole.  Slow and doesn't read the game very well.

I would not be surprised if United bounce back on Saturday against City, again....

He's not a captain neither

Manchester United predicted XI vs Man City: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw; McTominay, Fred, Fernandes; Rashford, Greenwood, Martial.

Christian Faulk has reported Pogba is about to sack his agent Riola

Need to put some meat on the bones here Chip Butty... I looked it up... It is said by Faulk (who writes for what is basically the German version oh the Sun) that if Raiola can't find him a new club quickly (sounds like Jan) he may switch agent.

So it's not like he is sacking him for the comments. Wouldn't want him anyway, the situation is too far gone.

Sori..but that was poor..utd stifled the game and for once I agree with Neville .. city a shadow of the team that won the prem .. DULL unimaginative. One paced. 2

Much money  but strangely not enuf quality

Seemed like both managers didnt want to lose, United should have gone for that and put City on the back foot
